When I was in primary school, I ran a school fete table where I set up my Amstrad cpc464 and just let kids play Gryzor (Contra) for 20p a life.

My attempt to restore the artwork of #Contra (#Gryzor in Europe) used for arcade advertising (Japan/Europe) and for the #Famicom release cover. Used different sources to fill in bits, taking few liberties, and applying the usual upscale/clean/retouch combo. No clue on the artist.

Ocean’s conversion of Gryzor (aka Contra) landed on the C64 in the summer of 1988. The graphics are decent and it’s packed with action but the controls are very awkward (use the space bar to jump!) and the difficulty curve is way too steep.
