I think an underrated user-friendly linux thing is hide-toggle overlay terminals. I like guake, there are a few others like it. It's like a really tiny UI difference that goes incredibly far toward making terminal commands a convenient first-class part of your computer UI

David Guake would make more sense. Although someone who actually works at the coalface would also be preferable.

I'm having the urge to customize n tweak the shit out of linux visually, DE/WM hop, and all that right now.
But deep down I know it's pointless waste of time, cuz I'll not be happy with it n just go back to KDE. Best case was GNOME for me.
Yakuake/Guake don't work. It kills my workflow fully :/

i'm not a coder but i use a lot of command line tools - finally getting around to setting a guake style hotkey for iterm2 on macos is really making my fucking life a lot easier

It's called quake mode because of the game (lots of fps games have a hidden console like this) and there's a gnome version I used for a while called Guake. Was pleasantly surprised to see Ghostty add it

Та я ліниво використовую убунту 18.04, колись я її оновлю, але відчуваю що разом із залізом 🤣 загалом переважно стандартний набір програм, хіба поставив собі guake, щоб консолька модно випадала зверху. Програвач gnome mvp чи щось таке. Браузери хром/фокс.

But its age is showing (I hear you, old buddy!), and it's no longer suitable for heavy-duty stuff.

Je suis d'accord, les terminaux par défaut font très bien l'affaire. Les seuls autres que j'utilise occasionnellement c'est Guake (drop down terminal), Terminator (pour envoyer des commandes à plusieurs machines en même temps) et parfois Blackbox (pour prendre des screenshots sans barre de titre)...

But Guake (and Badenoch) never mention that without achieving net-zero “in a few years’ time”, all our British kids, grandkids and great-grandkids will be forever - as UK currently does - on bended knee to the unsavoury regimes that produce fossil fuels…

i love linux now. i love sliding down my guake terminal and that terminal being able to do literally everything. steam and proton mean you can pretty much play all the games. and the audio only fails like 10% of the time which is good enough for me. i'm using mint but wanna switch to arch someday.

з того часу, як відмовився від guake[0] і перейшов повністю на ghostty[1], то маю проблему:
під кінець дня у мене дуже багато відкритих терміналів, бо я кожен раз не шукаю де заховався вже відкритий, а просто по хоткею відкриваю нове вікно
те саме з браузером і вкладками: постійно Ctrl+T і погнали

з того часу, як відмовився від guake[0] і перейшов повністю на ghostty[1], то маю проблему:
під кінець дня у мене дуже багато відкритих терміналів, бо я кожен раз не шукаю де заховався вже відкритий, а просто по хоткею відкриваю нове вікно

Surely Guake understands that it will be so much better for the security and stability of Brits if UK reaches net zero - so UK is no longer held at the mercy of fossil-fuel producing nations which our UK government must currently turn a blind eye to their increasingly distasteful politics?

If you have linux and like music you should get cmus and guake(or some other dropdown terminal) and just always have a button, f12 for me, to drop down the music player.

It's very sad the Tories have decended to this . I am sure the old breed of half humane Tories like Ken Clarke David Guake Dominic Greave Anna Soubry and a few of the other pro Europeans will be repulsed.

It will be interesting to see how they react to a Reform implosion. After MAGA-fying during the Johnson/Cummings dynasty, do they re-admit the Guake/Stewart/Barwell types, or try instead to move further into the Reform space?
