We had ridiculously good Oaxacan food at La Guelaguetza in Albuquerque: mole coloradito, chilaquiles, birria “pizza,” and shrimp tacos. Run by very nice people, too.

Mixteco and Triqui migrants are being increasingly targeted in ICE raids terrorizing California’s rural communities. It can be an act of bravery simply to walk to the store, or to drive a car at night. When Healdsburg’s Triquis decided to do a Guelaguetza, it would be a Guelaguetza de Resistencia.

I live in Los Angeles! Everyone should get Oaxacan food at Guelaguetza, Sichuan food in Alhambra, cemitas in Boyle Heights, al pastor tacos from Angel’s at their multiple locations on the street, and stroll through Descanso Gardens.

La Guelaguetza is an annual cultural celebration in Hillsboro. It features traditional dances, foods and crafts specific to about eight distinct Indigenous cultures from Oaxaca, Mexico. It’s modeled after La Guelaguetza festival, which has taken place in Oaxaca since pre-Hispanic times.

Guelaguetza! There are many distinct indigenous groups in Oaxaca State with their own languages, dress, crafts, customs and cuisines. They all come together to celebrate Guelaguetza to share their riches with each other in July.
