Remember, remember.
It's guising, not 'trick or treat'.
Neep lanterns, not pumpkins.

Guising. We were out guising.

IT'S CALLED GUISING!!!!
Trick or Treat is an American appropriation of our culture
We've allowed this to happen because it's been commercialised and sold back to us
How stupid are we? 🤦‍♂️
When I went out guising my mum and my gran got some old clothes and we made a costume
That was part of the gig
Just Alex Armstrong from GB News doing what any good journalist would do - making up lies to stir up hatred then being called out for it by the police.

My guising costume is someone who works in retail on a Saturday that thinks he's still in his 20s

That's the version of Halloween where weans go guising, not trick-or-treating, which means you must *earn* your sweeties.

Sternly saying guising and demanding jokes be told to any weans that trouble my door tonight

Trick or treating is an evolution of an old Scottish/Irish tradition called guising.
Guising is basically fancy dress begging, whereas trick or treating adds making threats to the mix.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!! in scotland, we call trick or treating 'guising' ;D anyone got cool plans tonight?
October 31, 2026 at 1:28 PM
(I simply do not think Guising is the same. Our generation’s version of “trick or treat” wasn’t the same as Guising, and this generation’s version isn’t the same as our generation’s was)

Maintaining guising here

Scotland psyche vs US psyche
Scottish Halloween Guising = goodies in exchange for performing a song, story or joke.
US 'Trick or Treat' = extortion. Give us goodies or we'll do a nasty to you.

In Scotland, Halloween was called guising. Because you were dressed in a disguise.

Scots comedian Susan Calman has just posted this photo on her Facebook. It's the 70s, & Calman & her siblings are at their Gran's, preparing to go guising. That's what we called it in Ireland when I was a kid as well. Proper Halloween terror...

Not guising?

I looked up guising in Scotland, which is basically the children having to perform to earn their sweeties. Songs, jokes, etc. I just couldn't get the idea of Simon sitting on the porch and interrupting these poor kids with his terrible humour. Happy Halloween, lovies.
