The police today brutally detained several people who tried to join the pride parade in Europe's biggest city, Istanbul, Turkey. About 40 people seems to have been arrested. My thoughts are with you all.

This is just brilliant. Taksim was closed because Turkish govt has blocked a march calling for an end to the genocide in Gaza.

Apparently the reason is that the march was organised by the opposition CHP. So much for the solidarity with Palestinians...

Turkish authorities are so afraid of trans people that they have banned trans pride march in Istanbul, banned all open air events in Beyoğlu for 24h, and blocked Taksim square and Gezi Park.

Sounds like Turkey is not strong, but weak
