Everybody has to have a stinger these days. What happens when Nimona returns home, in Halavahdon form, just to troll Ballister?

The inevitable freakout. At least they're not going to fire heavy artillery at her this time.

Having kaiju forms outside her Shadow Dragon and Light Phoenix gonna be FUN.
Nimona has finally returned home to her kingdom. But she returned home in *Halavahdon* form - all 350 feet of it - and is peering over the wall, Attack on Titan style, at a definitely-freaking-out-Ballister. "Hey, Boss!" A great stinger to, IMHO, a great series by Lauren Kirich, aka The Abbey Roadie. She's awesome.

I’m really really happy with how this one turned out! Here is Archteryx’s big gal with a heart of gold, Sylia, helping LS reach new heights. Thank you again 💚
A kaiju sized halavahdon picks up spaceship earth with both hands, and slowly stands. A (tiny compared to her!) green gryphon cheers from on top of the geodesic sphere.

He also invented the Halavadon in a single picture in the early 1990s, which I ended up (with permission) turning into an entire universe.
How it started: "Sightseeing," featuring Adon the Halavadon, drawn by Ken Sample in 1992 and later published in 1995. How it's going: Halavahdon v2.0, represented by fel-Sylia the Explorer. She's somewhat different than v1.0, but still carries the spirit of Ken's work with her. Ken himself did a version of Sylia, Halavahdon v2.0, as a commission. Needless to say it's a very happy occasion for them both: Sylia meeting her Creator, and Ken in the paw of a friendly macro, one he helped create.

Insanely good real-media painting of mar-Tykoni, the Grand Matriarch of the Halavahdon Explorer Pod. (Say that five times fast!)

Art by Sandy Schreiber. More details in alt text.

#macro #halavahdon #mar-tykoni #halavahverse
A painted watercolor portrait of the Grand Matriarch of the Explorer Superpod of the Halavahdon. (Whew!) She's sort of the equivalent of a NASA flight director - all Explorer operations, as well as updating the Elder Pod and relay pods, fall to her. She's driven by both a belief in her mission and bringing her people back home alive. She's very tall for a female Halavahdon, 430 feet from head to toe. Despite her great height she has a relatively compact. thick build, with a huge tail, leading to a set of flukes that are almost as big as her entire upper body. She has teal eyes and an ice blue crystal pendant around her neck. As shown, this crystal has a unique ability: It was engineered to plug into Explorer technology, allowing her to move things with her mind, create shields, and more. She rarely uses this ability, but she is the last line of defense for the Benefactor Campus; if she needs to, she *will* ruin your day. mar-Tykoni doesn't need to command respect. She earns it with hard work, dedication, and committment to the future of two peoples. She is truly The Matriarch. Art is by Sandy Schreiber.

Unlike most Warrior Halavahdon, Nimona loves kids, and here she is helping train a couple. One's trying to swim the "human" way - with arms and legs. It's not very effective. The other cub is swimming like a Halavahdon, undulating her body, legs, and tail together like a dolphin. And they can MOTOR.
A picture of Nimona in her (feral) shark form with two Halavahcubs chasing her in a hunting exercise. One is being left hopelessly behind because he doesn't know how to swim right yet, but his podsister is right on Nimona's tail and about to pounce. She's telling them both, "First one to catch me gets to put their head in my mouth!" and the cubs both think this is "Metal!" And these cubs won't be pointing spears at her and calling her a monster. They think she's awesome. A short adventure - and acceptance - for Nimona but a lifetime of good memories for these cubs. No monsters here. Just kids, no matter their age, having fun.

The ultimate honor for a newly minted Warrior: To be "knighted" by mar-Tykoni herself, Benefactor Pod chief and the most important Matriarch on the planet.

Once a Warrior, forever a Warrior, no matter where her travels take her and what form she is in. She earned this. And now she has two homes.
An induction ceremony on Halavahworld. On the left is mar-Tykoni, the Grand Matriarch of the Halavahdon, telling Nimona she has achieved the rank of Benefactor Warrior and giving her a Warrior Crystal. She is bowing her head to the ancient shapeshifter, out of respect. In the center is mel-Lothann, watching this like a proud father. And to the right is an absolutely delighted Nimona in Halavahdon form, admiring her new crystal necklace. She's gone from being accepted nowhere to having two families. And wherever she goes, she will always carry this badge of honor with her.

As big as she is, Sylia can cut a mean rug, and for her heartbonded Doohan, he's dancing on top of the world. Just two people having wholesome fun with one another.

Art by @theabbeyroadie.bsky.social, who always does fantastic with the Halavahdon.

Sylia the Halavahdon (whale-otter) and her heartbonded Doohan Lackey Otter. Their size scales are vastly different; Sylia is a hundred times Doohan's size. That doesn't stop him from dancing atop her head. For Sylia, it's the joy of land-dancing with a loved one. For Doohan, it's dancing on top of the world. The song is Thurston Harris' "Little Bitty Pretty One" and includes the lyrics: "Little bitty pretty one Come on and talk-a to me! Lovely dovey, lovey one Come on and sit down on my knee!" As different as their sizes are... in they end, they're just two people having fun with each other.

The story continues! A wide patrol scout swims up and issues a quick burst of Halavahdon, answered by mel-Lothann. Here's Nimona's chance to prove just how much she can whack tailflukes. Protect the cubs!

Art is by @theabbeyroadie.bsky.social, who loves drawing these gigantic whotters!
Three character sketch from @Theabbeyroadie.bsky.com. On the left is a wide patrol scout, the first line of defense for a Halavahdon creche. He reports a Longjaw, a deadly predator, very close to the creche in native Halavahdon. mel-Lothann, in the middle, acknowledges, then translates for Nimona. He offers to send the new warrior in to test her "metal." On the right, Nimona, still a shark from playing with the cubs, is all over it.

Beautiful piece by @theabbeyroadie.bsky.social featuring the Grand Matriarch, mar-Tykoni, in the aftermath of a terrible disaster that cost her sister's life.

More details in the alt text.

This was the Mover Disaster: youtu.be/Ro_QpDJX-Sk?....

#halavahverse #halavahdon #mar-tykoni #kytana
mar-Tykoni, Grand Matriarch of the Explorer Pod, in her greatest moment of doubt and pain: The Mover Disaster. The Great Mover is the core of the Explorer project, an interstellar teleporter gifted to the Halavahdon by the Benefactors. However, it had a fatal flaw in it: Nonredundancy. Her little sister was returning from a successful Explorer mission when the Mover blew its main memory core. The result was blind horror: A random half of her matter came back. Inside out. And alive to feel it. The screams were heard over a mile away. They didn't last long... fortunately. After taking control of the bedlam that followed, Tykoni retired to her private quarters, accessed via an underwater cave. She sits on a crystal bench, in tears, talking to Kytana the Leviaphin, the giant psychic orcas that act as mentors and support the Explorer Project. Tykoni: "What... what do I do now? How can some new Matriarch save what we've built? I... I couldn't even save my own sister..." Kytana: "By looking to your pod. We're here too. You don't have to do it alone. We are all gravely wounded by this, but we're prepared to do whatever it takes to get your people home. And we hope you are, too." There are also song lyrics from Pat Benetar's "Invincible" above it, as foreshadowing of the speech Tykoni gives to the Explorer Pod later. Then she sets to work to get the Mover repaired, to bring the rest of her people in the field home alive...

"This is the part where you RUN."

I'd take her advice, young Longjaw. This isn't any ordinary Halavahdon warrior, and your day is about to get thoroughly ruined.

Art is by @theabbeyroadie.bsky.social, who's doing a smash-up job with this Nimona/Halavahdon crossover.

Let's break stuff.
Confrontation! Nimona on the left in a hugely upsized whale form - she's the size of Monstro! - going nose to nose with the young Longjaw, a cross between a mosasaur and a basilosaur. The warm-blooded reptile, a young one, is looking more than a little nervous about this sudden stranger up in his grill. He's going to be a lot more nervous before Nimona gets through with him.

This has to be one of my favorite of the series, bar none. The farewell, when the Halavahdon prepare to send Nimona back to her realm. The cubs, though, have their own good-bye to give, and it's salve on a millenia-old wound.

And the Halavahdon learned something from the experience.
The farewell assembly for Nimona. She's getting a grand sendoff: mel-Lothann on the left looking like a proud father, mar-Tykoni, Grand Matriarch, giving her a proper sendoff and telling her she is always welcome. But it's the cubs that leave the real impression. These cubs aren't pointing pointy things at her and calling her a monster. They're giving her cub-kisses, and hoping she returns! She's fun to be around! Nimona, in her Halavahdon form, could not be happier. Finally: She showed her prowess as a warrior in protecting the cubs and got a proper thank you for it. She'd probably hate hearing it, but she'd make a damn good knight.

Context: This is Sylia the Halavahdon, a very friendly giant whale-otter who found someone who needed rescuing. They'd drifted out to sea and lost sight of the shore.

So she came to ease their fears, maybe trade stories, and get them back to shore safely. No shark will come within 5 miles of her!

SOME macros do more than just stomp around the whole month.
Sylia the Halavahdon, part orca, part otter, 400 feet tall and a marshmallow of a macro. She's hugging her favorite artist in her chest fluff, Lauren Kisich (who also drew the picture), Dreamworks alum and all around sweet person. A FEW macros are far more cuddly than stompy.

The actual end of the Nimona series from some time ago. It took a while, but @theabbeyroadie.bsky.social came through.

mel-Lothann and mar-Tykoni are... sort of an item by their people's standards. She needs SOMEONE to lean on, having the future of two peoples on her shoulders.
mar-Tykoni, Grand Matriarch of the Halavahdon and leader of the Explorer Pod, talking with mel-Lothann, Chief of the Benefactor Warrior Pods. Both are watching Halavah-Nimona disappear in her fashion, pink sparkles marking where she once was. Their conversation is very simple. mar-Tykoni: Do you think she'll be all right? mel-Lothann: She'll [Nimona will] be fine. No matter what shape she takes, she will always be a Warrior. Truer words never spoken, Lothann.

Can't make a post about mar-Tykoni without also posting her consort, mel-Lothann. We've seen the Chief Warrior of the Benefactors before; do not ever underestimate his intelligence or cunning.

Art by Heather Bruton.

#macro #halavahdon #mel-lothann #halavahverse
mel-Lothann, Chief Warrior of all the Benefactor Warrior Pods. A monster of a Halavahdon at 460 feet and wielding a diamond-tipped spear nearly as big as he is. He calls himself the Solitary Warrior, and yet he can command an army. To understand his strength and speed, think of this: A bull orca can break a Great White Shark in half with one hit. mel-Lothann is 12 times larger than a bull orca and has intelligence as sharp as any of the megadolphins. He's the closest thing his world has to Primal's Spear. He's lithe and muscular, with a muzzle more feline than otter. His eyes are a piercing yellow, a feature of the Feral Pods that spawned him. His flukes are narrower and lighter than a female's, designed for raw speed in a charge. In this watercolor painting by Heather Bruton, he silently waits in a kelp forest, spear at the ready, as he waits to ambush his target from the blindside. He can hold his breath over an hour, so he has the patience to wait a long time, waiting for maximum advantage... Do not challenge mel-Lothann lightly. He is a force of nature.

Deadly trouble - An Explorer has gone down. Did gravity sickness overcome them? Were they shot down? Did something go wrong with their belt?

The Rescue Pod is here. If this wasn't an accident, someone is going to *pay.*

#macro #halavahverse #halavahdon #rescue
mar-Tykoni and mel-Lothann lead a Warrior Pod to rescue a fallen Explorer. This Warrior Pod is quite unique: They call themselves the Lost Boys, once a bachelor pod, now seasoned Warriors. They are the muscle to get their podmate home - and if they were shot down, they will attack without mercy to provide Tykoni and Lothann cover until their Explorer can be rescued. The Lost Boys show up, and you shot down one of their peaceful Explorers, you are going to have a *very bad day.* I often say Halavahdon are the anti-kaiju. But you piss them off enough, and they can absolutely go all kaiju on your arse, and the Lost Boys like nothing more than a good fight. Bangarang.

(2/4) I'd ever seen. 30 years freaking later, suddenly, my OC had a name, a face, and a STORY. Sylia was born, redesigned as Halavahdon v2.0. Ken liked it so much, he redid his original 1991 image with Sylia. She is, of course, holding Ken gently. It's a huge deal for them both and illustrates...
A duplicate of the original pose from 1991, but this one featuring the modern version of Sylia, Halavahdon v2.0, with a large dorsal fin, arm fins, a large set of tail flukes, and other whale-like features. She is effectively a giant orca-otter, with all that that implies. She is holding her creator in her hand, Ken Cougar himself, and he's loving being so close to a Big that won't hurt him. (Even if he loves to be stomped and is indestructible, that doesn't mean she wants to TEST that...)

Let's step back into the past a few steps. Before they let ANYONE near their kids, Kytana, who is a powerful psychic, gives Nimona an interview. It nearly goes disastrously wrong, but Ky knows a hurt kid when she sees one no matter how ancient they are.

She has had enough of her own.
Kytana the Leviaphin giving Nimona in Halavahdon form a telepathic interview: Kytana: You have a monster in you... Nimona: DON'T CALL ME A MON-- Kytana: Calm, Ancient One. I would never do that. The monster inside you was put there by countless centuries of unjust treatmemt. That would have damaged anyone. Nimona: Then how do I control this... thing? Kytana: You already started. You have a very dear podmate in your friend Ballister. We welcome you as long as you will wish to stay, but you must return to your friend afterward. He is what you need to heal. Kytana is grandmother to a number of grandcalves. She knows a few things about mothering.

With a macro/micro piece that good you guaranteed that I'm going to have to have you do my girl Sylia the whotter. She's just as big as your giant monkey, but has a waaaaaay different personality.

To put it simply, she's a 400 foot tall marshmallow. (And has a HUGE story behind her).
Sylia the Halavahdon, half whale, half otter, sitting on the beach and getting her whale-like tail flukes rubbed by two friendly 'Tinies.' They are both dear friends, and she's enjoying every moment of the treatment, even blepping out her tongue. As far as macros go, she's as kindly as they come. Sylia the Halavahdon (whale-otter, or whotter for short), finding her 400 foot tall self near a beach full of "Tinies." She thinks this is wonderful, and not for the usual reasons a macro might. She's just there to make friends and influence people, quite literally. A pic of Sylia the Halavahdon (whale-otter) at full size, talking with a sheep/cow taur named Rayne. Only her head and forepaws are shown; Rayne is barely bigger than her nose alone! But this encounter will have a happy ending: They are just there to trade stories together.
