In the post-credits chat (if you weren't aware, each episode has that) the writers talk about the way Halogram and John talk to each other being influenced by Ghost (1990, Demi Moore & Patrick Swayze). I can see that. I was hoping that Halogram would got a body, but, oh well

I think the ring has already run out of power. Halogram didn't answer John when he asked. John can maintain constructs without wearing the ring. Somehow, John is keeping the ring powered and Halogram knows it.
