@hamchallenge I guess this counts as #hc51s — a lot of what I wrote here I previously wrote in answers to various questions people actually asked, either on Mastodon or on Reddit, so that sounds like public impact.
I've spent the past year learning Morse code, and it's ended up being a great deal of fun. I've had a lot of questions. I've tried to share what I've learned with others as I've gone along.

To celebrate the end of the year, I wrote a combination of information, story, and advice. How to get […]

I might be the last person to do so, but today I tried FT8 for the first time. Made a few successful QSOs on 17m and 30m, the one with KA9FOX was a real DX-success for me (with 5W and and Inverted Vee on the balcony) #hamchallenge HC31S @hamchallenge

@hamchallenge #hc43s I've published several 3D printable designs for #hamradio, all designed with #freecad.

My favorite is my single-paddle key system which I use regularly. I own Kent and Putikeeg keys, and still use my own creation most. I even […]

@hamchallenge And since @df5go is a participant in the #hamchallenge as well, this also counts as HC30S
October 13, 2025 at 12:54 PM
And yesterday, I completed another @hamchallenge:
I made my very first contact in morse code. It was over a very short distance and we agreed on the contents of the QSO beforehand, but I managed to understand what @df5go sent and successfully sent my own callsign and report. So HC38S

@hamchallenge Challenge for Week 40 was to write a poem on my biggest #hamradio pet peeve.
Well, here we go: HC40S

They hear my voice
and they rejoice
"Oh, a YL!", they shout
but I'd rather not stand out
or at least have the choice.

Disclaimers:
- I'm bad at poems. Always have been - that's […]

@hamchallenge Since the week in the US is considered to start on Sunday, my 10 CW POTA QSOs on Sunday definitely count as #hc38s within the week.

At the beginning of this year, I had not finished learning all the morse symbols. Now ¾ of my QSOs have been CW, I hunt POTA at 20WPM, run POTA at […]

One of my many simultaneous ongoing #hamradio projects are a set of bandpass filters. I forgot until now that my uSimmics work with various filters counts as @hamchallenge #hc22s — even though I haven't built them yet, I _have_ simulated them (and […]

Other gems: Voice of Vietnam broadcasting in German (in the 25m band) and Radio New Zealand on 15.720MHz 😲

Most stations we heard were from Radio China International, though (broadcasting in several languages like Hungarian, Czech, Russian...

Taking advantage of the mild weather tonight and trying to listen to foreign broadcast stations for #hamchallenge week 32 and just found Voice of Korea broadcasting from Northern Korea in English! Definitely HC32S!

Although I've not managed to complete any of @hamchallenge to date, I feel that an IOTA activation barely a week after the proposed week for #hc29s is worth tooting :-)

The 9V1IO[TA] team[1] performed our customary "Island Station - DXpedition" activation […]

@hamchallenge Apparently this was also an ahead-of-schedule #hamchallenge #hc33s

I built a six-band linked dipole with links for 10m, 12m, 15m, 17m, 20m, 30m, and 40m meant for inverted-V deployment, to be an efficient, mostly isotropic radiator with high Q on one band (at a time). I want to be […]

Squeaking in at the end of @hamchallenge week #hc29s — I played #pota today, hunting CW park-to-park, to test my new QRP linked dipole, entirely of my own design. Used a 10oz throw weight to put a slippery UHMWPE line over a branch and pull the dipole […]

It took me a while to come up with an idea for the "unusual antenna" #hamchallenge but after some experimenting, let me introduce you to the "Di-Spoon"! I had a successful QSO with @df5go on 70cm over 500m to our local parc, so HC12S! More tests to follow.

@hamchallenge #hamchallenge HC36S Operate your station from battery power for a day. GoalZero Escape150 powered my IC-705 station for the day. Not a lot of transmitting (busy with other things), but battery still more than half-full after 10 hours. Will use […]

@hamchallenge Looking over the listing shows HC28 to be of interest (working 6m ES-skip is always fun). Issue is that my indoor mag loop does not cover 6m (only up to 10m).

Need to set a mental reminder to review this challenge again after setting up a temp OUTDOOR antenna over 2024 ARRL Field […]

@hamchallenge HC18S Make a contact in digital voice mode. Completed a digital voice QSO on 8-May-2025 with Jim, WB8HMD on DMR digital via the K9VI Crystal Lake, IL repeater. Used TriStateDMR Talk Group 4649 (network) and TG 8 (local RF, TS1 CC04).

@hamchallenge HC17S What VHF/UHF repeater is closest to your location (and how did you determine this)?

Using RepeaterBook App on iPad with GPS enabled yielded my location in the title bar, then searched for closest repeaters of any type to meet this challenge.

Closest repeater at 5.3 Miles NE […]

I used https://repeatermap.de/ to check for FM repeaters close to where I live and found that since the beginning of the year, there is DB0BLX in the middle of Berlin. Can't try using it since I'm not at home currently but will try when I'm back.
