TBH, I would pay $400 if this had the hardcopy, a player's guide, and the poster, anything else is superfluous.

It's only an e-book. It contains a scoop of 20+ years of work--printed out, it would be 463 pages long. And though I think the work is good, it doesn't deserve the resources.
My other three books, which are also very good, exist in hardcopy!

Oh man, seeing colours for files on the laptop is a full on worst case scenario experience of what print colours might do. The shift between my work comp and the laptop always reassures me when i get the hardcopy comparison, nothing is worse than lappy cols.

i really have only encountered them with regard to other people’s work, but they made me so angry over the acceptibility of that approach that i threw the (luckily hardcopy) book or article on the floor every time.
(i’ve published critical essays myself, but my approach is not evaluative per se)

I hope it hasn’t reduced the quality of TF - we knock out something every day - we did lose writers v attached to the hardcopy but we’ve got a load of new writers with a lot of talent amongst them imo. We have lost something from those writers who don’t bother now tho - Big Duke, Sean Whelan etc

Once something has been digitized it's quite easy to alter it. But a book that has been in the library for 50 years will have the same text as when it was printed. Same thing goes for vinyl records.Hardcopy is useful as a backup for verification.

I haven't been able to find out how late the hardcopy can arrive, but I always vote early so I haven't tested it. (Mailed my general-election ballot yesterday; had an ack from a human being for the e-mail copy next day.)

As a US citizen living in Canada, all my voting involves mail, though in recent years there's extra time for post: real ballot arrives and I return by e-mail; posted hardcopy also required but I think only for auditing.

Undoubtedly this, but even allowing for lock-in effects, PDF is
semantically, technologically & businesswise a dead end format.
In 10-15 years the few still reading at all will be having to OCR born-digital pdfs to scrape their content into [however they consume them] and wishing they had hardcopy

It's pretty good. I downloaded a copy from Project Gutenberg, even though I have a Penguin Classics hardcopy in a box around here somewhere

My first computer? Technically, I suppose it was an IBM System/360, although I never actually saw it. First one I touched (I helped build it) was an IMSAI 8080. Both now more than 50 years ago.

A very surprising and equally welcome present arrived on my desk yesterday. Getting a hardcopy of The U-Boat War in slipcase and with annexes must be one of my prized possessions now.
