I'm appreciating @ClintSmithIII's account of how his encounter w Jefferson, and esp via @agordonreed's _Hemingses of Monticello_, but also at Monticello itself, vaulted him into a new way of thinking about narratives of Americanness. (In #HardHistories webinar w @jmjafrx).
