#harfoots
I love Largo's faith as he tries to cheer up Nori and the other Harfoots. He's such a warm character and a good Dad. #TROPRewatch

"Sadoc, trees don't talk"
"Some do."

Ok, I need the adventures of Sadoc because he knows a lot for a Harfoot who kept to himself in his youth like all good Harfoots should. #TROPRewatch

Edible mushrooms should be named after hobbits.
Harfoots, Gamgees, Bracegirdles, Tooks.

Also the Harfoots, the ones Tolkien explicitly describes as being brown, are “the most normal and representative variety of Hobbits, and far the most numerous,” which tells me white hobbits are the fucking minority.

“The Shire doesn’t care about the outside world, they just don’t want people coming in.”

Nice dog whistle, Andy. Also inaccurate, as the literal prologue of Fellowship describes how Hobbits happily trade with and learn from outsiders, and the Harfoots literally have “dark skin.”

I really do love the way the Harfoots can speed-camouflage in just about any environment.

Also the way Nori and Poppy are shot in their hiding scene is absolutely meant to evoke Frodo and Sam hiding under the cloak in TTT - the angles, the closeness, everything.

Hobbits enter written history in Third Age 1050. The Tale of Years gives that year one entry: a shadow falls on Greenwood and men begin to call it Mirkwood, and the Periannath are first mentioned in records, with the coming of the Harfoots to Eriador. Same line. No comment.

i feel like the silvan elves' political relationship with the noldor has been ignored too much. we don't really get to see what defines silvan elf culture. there's already some great worldbuilding ideas with the harfoots. combining their stories solves multiple problems at once!
September 22, 2026 at 6:06 PM
ooooo I really like this idea!! I agree that the harfoots have been done a disservice by being so disconnected from the main plot and this could connect arondir further too (who i love. if anything happens to arondir…)
September 22, 2026 at 6:02 PM
i do love the harfoots a lot! i just think the lack of unity between plotlines is making it difficult to really take in all of the interesting elements in their story. at least we'll have fanfic ❤️

arondir is also rescued as part of this same mission. (he is also not the only brown-skinned elf on screen.)

the silvan elves were of like mind with the harfoots before, wanting to hide from war. but gil-galad started extending his authority (gil-galad playing oropher's role here).
September 22, 2026 at 5:26 PM
after a successful rescue of one of the harfoots, they are forced to accept that they're just as part of the world as anyone else, and they can help others resist the terrible things out there.

Heh... here's a little parallel:
S1E1 - The Elves send Galadriel away and she ends up finding a stranger
S1E8 - The Harfoots send Nori away *with* a Stranger.

Gal on the ship as it enters Valinor, looks back and refuses to leave.
Nori: "if I look back, I won't ever be able to leave"

I cried at the reveal of the significance of the wandering song, so that was a win! I never understood the deep hate for Harfoots among some subgroups, but I don't get the deep hate for the show in general (at least where its unrelated to hatred of the parent company)

In the Rings of Power, we were introduced to a saying: "Nobody goes off trail, and nobody walks alone"

Some have managed to dig deeper within the truth... and unravel the mysteries of the Harfoots once and for all.

But what do you think?

"We're Harfoots! We don't slay dragons, not much for takin' jewels..." lolol, I just caught that. #TROPRewatch

like 400-ish kph. The Harfoots - their renamed hobbits - are all sociopaths, who keep saying that their main trait is that they stick together, except they miss no opportunity to abandon each other to die if anyone slows down at all, and their leader is a pervert. Oh, and the Balrog is woken...

Happy #TolkienTuesday!

In The Nature of Middle-earth, Tolkien notes that "beards were not found among Hobbits...All male Dwarves had them."

But In Concerning Hobbits, Bilbo states that Stoors had downy chin-beards, but Harfoots and Fallohides did not.

Tolkien allows for many interpretations!

Harfoots one minute: We will wait for you!
Harfoots in the next scene after someone breaks his foot: TAKE THEIR WHEELS. IF WE TAKE THEM ON OUR JOURNEY, THEY'LL DOOM US ALL

so fucking weird.

Presumably because audiences would have been able to make drinking games out of whether it was Sauron or the Harfoots that had killed more innocents.

Likely the Harfoots had a higher kill count.
🚨CONFIRMED: There will be no Harfoots in Season 3 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power

I was genuinely sad to hear the harfoots are not in this next season anymore 😭 we need to have some love and joy from somewhere

There was a video of this song on the YousTubes, which we watched many times, for reasons. And it started with this line. Which I cannot help but quote reflexively every time we watch this. Much to the Conjunx’s delight.
