His political position soon collapsed. Ibn Saud's forces captured Mecca in October 1924, and Hussein relinquished his secular titles in favour of his son Ali. The Hashemite Kingdom of Hejaz continued under Ali for a short time, but Saudi forces eventually conquered the territory in 1925.
