Stumbled upon this for no reason whatsoever, but it looks like CSS zoom is now “newly available across major browsers” two and a half decades after its introduction: caniuse.com/css-zoom
And now I’m getting weirdly fond memories of all the clearfixes ever shipped using zoom: 1;

I am proud to say I’ve had to use ˋzoom: 1ˋ in css! It was fixing issues in Internet Explorer 6 and above regarding what was known as the ˋhasLayout` internal properties on Element. For example inline-block was not working without that!

Set `_zoom: 1;` on the container to trigger `hasLayout` and then it should be fine 🙃

hasLayout was first suspect, of course. Weird that problem shows in IE7 but not IE6/8.
