This reminds me of the now dead Washington state HB1834 "Protecting Washington children online" which tried to define algorithmic feeds as addictive. See also bsky.app/profile/znep...

Rep. Rob Matzie is the sponsor of the Data Center Bill HB1834 that passed the House in March. This bill would ensure that data centers don't drive up the costs of energy for everybody else. It would also have them pay into a LIHEAP fund to help low-income households pay for cooling in the summer.

I voted YES on HB1834 to

✅ Protect ratepayers by prohibiting large data centers from shifting costs to households

✅Require data centers to pay their fair share for costs & invests in energy affordability

✅ Data centers must use clean energy, improve energy reliability, & reduce emissions.

PEC applauds the PA House for passing the first major bill addressing energy usage by data centers and its impact on consumers. Among other key provisions we advocated, it requires data centers to procure electricity from new, clean, firm generation sources.
