Good memory on the heartnut. The two we put in failed but I think they’ll do better, again in our south field. Will try and plant some next season with some other nut varieties to get a mixed nut orchard on the go. We planted some stone pine that have done well so far so feeling more confident

Work was light, so I mowed a bit. A lot of the lawn is covered in standing water, so I put the kiwi, hazelnuts, heartnut & rosemary into the ground. The big girls are COATED in mud, happy & exhausted. The bedding is fresh, the dryer & the washer are running. I’m happy, but feel like I should do more

The nuts are waking up! Despite a rough winter the chestnuts, hazelnuts, walnuts and heartnuts all survived, even the grafted ones. Now the sheep will keep them weeded & fertilized #nuts #orchard #permaculture #trees #homestead #farm

We have about 20 nut trees, hazelnut/chestnut/walnut/heartnut/hardy pecan. And then maybe 40 different fruit trees of all kinds in our food forest and scattered around, anywhere from 1-4 cultivars of anything that grows here. Everything has been in ground for 2-3 seasons

We have about 20 nut trees, hazelnut/chestnut/walnut/heartnut/hardy pecan. And then maybe 40 different fruit trees of all kinds in our food forest and scattered around, anywhere from 1-4 cultivars of anything that grows here. Everything has been in ground for 2-3 seasons
Some pics of the sheep grazing around our young nut trees. We move them & their portable shelter every 4 days to a new paddock. A full rotation inside 2 acres of deer fencing planted with trees takes 60 days, which controls parasites & promotes healthy pasture. #chestnut #hazelnut #heartnut #walnut

So, this example shows all these nuts, and there IS the heartnut im speaking about bottom left, and im pretty sure that has it's own shape comparing guide similar this picture aswell.

My tree order arrived an hour ago: a heartnut and a Holstein apple (which I didn't remember ordering). There was a brief gap between the showers, so both trees are now planted: a satisfying end to the long weekend.

This tree will be a teenager when I am an old man, and my daughters will be able to bring their children to see it, eat its fruit, and remember our little times, in our little yard, with our little pots & seeds. 💚
