a large and quite beautiful vintage 1940s handmade mixed metals 940 silver and copper Snowflake with 4 Hearts design brooch by Hector Aguilar of Taxco. One of the greatest of the maestro of the Mexican silver renaissance in Taxco in the early to mid 20th century, this is a very attractive and entirely handmade design by him. Measures 2-3/4" by 2-3/4" and weighs 23.5 grams total. Marked at back as shown with his conjoined HA maker mark, also "940" for 940 silver which is higher quality than sterling silver at 925, and "Taxco". These are his 1940s marks pre Eagle mark. Excellent vintage condition.

a SUPERB vintage 1940s Art Deco Moderne to Modernist handmade 940 silver cocktail/drink stirer designed by Hector Aguilar for his Taller Borda store in Taxco. Probably one of his greatest designs in silver flatware and of the very highest quality and execution! Measures 10" long by 1-1/2" wide at the bowl, and weighs a substantial 133.5 grams or 4.3 troy ounces! Fully marked at back as shown with the Taller Borda mark, the Eagle 9 mark, also the conjoined HA maker mark for Aguilar, and "940 Taxco". Excellent vintage condition. Hector Aguilar was born in 1905 and became one of the most prominent figures during the Mexican Silver Renaissance. He played a crucial role in shaping the art of Taxco silver craftsmanship and left a lasting legacy that continues to be celebrated today. In 1937, Hector Aguilar embarked on his silver-making journey by joining the renowned silver designer William Spratling at his Las Delicias silver shop in Taxco, Mexico. Spratling is often referred to as the father of the Mexican Silver Renaissance, and working under him provided Aguilar with valuable experience and insights into the world of silver artistry. After spending a short period with Spratling, Hector Aguilar established his own workshop called Taller de Borda in 1939. It was here that he truly flourished as a maestro, showcasing his exemplary work and distinctive artistic style. His creations were characterized by their impeccable craftsmanship and innovative designs, setting him apart as a true master of his craft. One of Hector Aguilar's most significant contributions to the world of silver craftsmanship was his commitment to passing on his skills to the next generation. He mentored and trained numerous aspiring silver artisans, many of whom went on to become notable figures in their own right. This dedication to teaching and preserving the art of silver making ensured that his influence would extend far beyond his own lifetime. Over the years, Hector Aguilar's silver pieces have attained immense value and appreciation among collectors and enthusiasts alike. His exceptional skill, coupled with his creative design sensibilities, has made his works highly sought after in the market.
