Keeping up with heme/onc audio should not take a whole evening.

The episodes exist. They are scattered, and finding the recent ones in your disease area takes longer than listening to them.

The best heme/onc textbook is not one you can buy. It's the one you already wrote.

Textbooks are heavy and date fast. Your notes are current. They just have no pictures.

I got the general sense that in both heme/onc and rheum you were unable to match anywhere without having pubs. I did not have a single peer reviewed publication since I did a (half #healthpolicy) research year in 08-09 😂

First rotation of heme/onc fellowship in the books! It was great and I feel like I’m exactly where I belong. One thing that hit me like a brick wall was how MORE academic fellowship is than residency. It’s time to become the expert. #hematology #oncology #fellowship

Then build one!
Rearrange space you have to see these patients directly on dedicated heme-onc units/ infusion centers.
Get creative. It can be done.
(Speaking as an ID doc and past Chief of Staff of two large hospital systems in Canada-recently retired).

It may be a hematological issue rather than an oncological issue. I am an RN and I have talked to many patients that see a heme/onc provider for treatment of blood disorders, so seeing an oncologist doesn’t always mean cancer. Do you know what specifically was abnormal with your CBC?

An oncologist so notorious for inflicting treatment on terminally ill patients “until the last living cell” the med school no longer let him teach trainees abruptly kicked it.
That night heme/onc docs, nurses, & we consultants swapped stories of his remorseless harm & bought rounds of drinks.
Salud!
My hot take is that Lindsey Graham did many contemptible things but if you’re furious that his Senate Democratic colleagues are posting nice things about him today you need to put down your phone, get some fresh air, and remember a time when a colleague you disliked departed this mortal coil.

In all seriousness, ask.

I worked in a heme/onc research lab. Sometimes the pediatric oncologist in charge would bring masked patients from the ward, as they were able. They were kids 8-15 yo so they would do homework or play on the computer. Some had insightful questions & observations, too.

GVH is awful. I didn't work in heme-onc specifically but did see it as a complication of liver transplant.

I spend a reasonable amount of time in a heme-onc ward (accompanying someone I care about, who's doing well), so it's habitual.

This is crazy news. I started my nursing career in peds heme/onc and our sickle cell kids were some of the sickest. This is incredible.

I know introducers like to be silly and edgy, especially with speakers they have known forever, but vibes are OFF when you say someone went to the Al Capone School of Medicine and got the Golden Machine Gun...and then show a Photoshopped picture of them in the Boys of Heme/Onc calendar?

Trying to think of a crashing ICU pt that would get to 22: ICU as primary team, cardiology, ID, rheum, heme/onc, neurology, gen surg, ENT, neurosurgery, GI, interventional radiology, rehab medicine, endocrine, electrophysiology, psych, palliative care, hospitalist, radiation oncology, allergy.
