#hempCrete
The fabric and paper guys are going to be the ones supplying feedstock to the hempcrete guys. Hempcrete despite the promoters claims really are more like the Hardie cement board type uses. That's already a billion dollar company so adding in different fiber wouldn't really qualify imo.

Hempcrete? Nah fabric or paper
October 2, 2026 at 9:13 PM
Price per ton on hempcrete probably has to be in the $100-$150 range for it to be competitive.
October 2, 2026 at 9:08 PM
I disagree here:

There are many people trying and going nowhere. The local people trying to do hempcrete just shut down a few months ago. They were morons and crooks, but they still failed badly.

The industrial feedstock avenues put a price for hemp stalk in the $300-400/ton range.

I’ve said it before, but the first person to make a billion in cannabis is gonna be in the hempcrete space
I always wonder who gets the contracts for sound walls next to highways. Those contracts must be worth an absolute fortune. Hundreds and hundreds of miles of strong, tall concrete walls....

35 outside, 24 inside, 13 outside, 21 inside without heating or cooling are temperature figures people living in Hempcrete homes have indicated.

Well shit, if this is what your dumb ideas look like... nicely done.

It seems like a massive missed opp for developers not to have pitched this to a community vs ramming into them/being seen as pariahs. One potential issue is sound mitigation (hempcrete, cork, or rammed earth could help)
October 1, 2026 at 4:26 PM
We need to massively ramp up the "know-how" too. There are virtually no licensed contractors in Virginia w/ hempcrete experience, & state won't provide contractor license reciprocity. For commercial builds this creates liabilities. An entire regulatory / legal regime exists to cement high carbon

There is a slight gap because the old wall wasn't completely flat and the hempcrete blocks have a sort of corrugated effect on the rear (presumably how the machine makes them) but hempcrete is excellent for hygrostasis so condensation is not a concern.

Should have a half to metre thick Hempcrete wall around them, and a very thick Hempwool insulation in the ceiling space. Reduce external heat from adding to heat generated while dampening the sound. Then not allowing them within 10kms of residential areas, or as China have done with 3, underwater!

Rehabilitation bonds would ensure that people have employment for a while. Anything woodchip can do, hemp can do in 120 days. If hemp is locked into housing that would lock away CO2, potentially for hundreds of years with regards to Hempcrete. Why is there no money thrown at this?
September 30, 2026 at 5:51 AM
list. Hempcrete housing, hempwool, hempwood. Make cars out of bio plastics, diesel from the seed.

Jack Herer told the world the answer in 1973 and what did the USA do. They had a war on a plant they started in 1971 thanks to Nixon. Tried to remove it globally, the answer to CO2 saturation.

Hempcrete doesn’t have nearly the strength of concrete. It’s barely durable enough for single story huts. It’s basically adobe.

Massive advances in composite materials are required for this to become a serious carbon solution.

Not ready for prime time. Maybe never.

Some things have no solutions.

1300 acres, what the absolute $%#!. You wouldn't want to be within 10 miles. Even with a half metre thick Hempcrete wall around it, the hum would still escape. Put 6" of Hempwool into the ceiling space would help. It would asssist thermally on hot days.

Hempcrete blocks.

To add to this: Build green, resilience, community, change & power.

We're building walls made of Virginia hemp & Southwest US lime. There are fewer than 5 commercial hempcrete projects in the US. We are shifting that -- an act of resistance against industrial foam & fiberglass & for resilience

I can't see that building hempcrete buildings would be that expensive if we got it running to scale like we should have been doing the past 100 years. 40% of the household energy cost is heating and cooling, that could be reduced by as much as 60%. A house that captures CO2, and continues to.

Beyond Hempcrete: Wade Atteberry and the Next Chapter of Hemp Building
At Oregon State, a 10-by-20-foot demonstration structure became something larger: a living map of an American hemp-building industry learning how to manufacture, teach, and build at scale.

They need a kill switch to turn off power and water so that in the event the powergrids under stress due to heat or cold or disaster that the power goes to the people not to the machine. Half metre thick Hempcrete walls and thick Hempwool insulation in the roof would reduce noise and reduce power.
Talarico wants data centers to pay for their own grid upgrades, recycle their water, create real jobs, & get a community's consent before moving in. Paxton took nearly $500,000 from the industry.
Texans want a senator who fights for them. That's why we will have a #BlueWaveIn40Days

If you're in #Baltimore, MD or the DC area, did you know you can get fine #reclaimed and used lumber at places like The Loading Dock & Second Chance? Reuse is better for environmental resource management & supports economic development & job training. #reuse #buildingreuse

Sometimes progress on a job site looks big. Other times it's a faint blue line denoting the layout of new walls. After progress with the hempcrete, the interior partitions are being physically realized using reclaimed lumber, salvage steel windows & more hempcrete to make use of leftover lime

81 housing units, Mellinet development zone, Nantes - built with hempcrete and a timber frame

I've posted this before but reposting as there's a lot more info and images on the architects website:
