It is worth considering that we are being inordinately affected by forces that we cannot change. This has a kind of cognate in the waves of Catholic-Protestant changes in the wake of Henry8's death. People's lives were changed, sometimes violently, as they were forced to comply with each shift. 1/2

I pause a moment on Henry8, because a previous war of succession left England in ruins. He was sure that if he died without a son, England would suffer for decades. That turned out to be wrong; the nobles decided war wasn't worth it and Mary could be queen. But he didn't know that would happen.
