This is a comparison between The Bellman's head on the front cover (designed by #HenryHoliday) of #LewisCarroll's #TheHuntingOfTheSnark and the head of #FatherTime in an English School painting (ca. 1610, by an unknown painter) of #QueenElizabeth I at old age (snrk.de/time/).

These sketches by the 19th century artist, Henry Holiday are a perfect combination of art and science. They were made using the Newall Refractor and now reside in our Library.

On this day, 193 years ago, Lewis Carroll was born in Daresbury, Cheshire, England.

His masterpiece is a long tragicomical poem. On 25 October 1875, almost 150 years ago, Carroll gave it the title "The Hunting of the Snark" (snrk.de/snarkhunt).

«“Just the place for a Snark!” the Bellman cried,
As he landed his crew with care;
Supporting each man on the top of the tide
By a finger entwined in his hair.»

Henry Holiday's illustration to the last chapter "The Vanishing" of Lewis Carroll's tragicomedy "The Hunting of the Snark" (1876).

Happy Star Wars day!

By the way, whoever owns Yoda, they don't own Henry Holiday's depiction of the Baker's Uncle in Lewis Carroll's "The Hunting of the Snark" (1876).
