Added secondary layer to the spherical analytic media with its own params for color and phase function. Here the first layer is with Rayleigh scattering and the second with Henyey Greenstein for fog

Take a drink every time you read the phrase "Henyey-Greenstein"

juuuust in case you were curious, these are my solutions to the width, height, and centroid of the Henyey-Greenstein Phase Function. I was trying to reparameterize it into a linear transform for reasons

*Newly Dr.* Kathryn Jones (+me and Kevin Heng) asks: "Planets show a sharp surge in brightness when directly opposite the Sun, and this peak is sharper for solid planets than for gas planets. Could we use this to detect rocky surfaces with JWST or HWO?" 🧪🔭🪐

tl;dr: no.

I've been hard at work on #NovaSquadron 's clouds again! Fortunately, dual-filtered volumetric froxel-based Henyey-Greenstein phased fBM cloud rendering is as simple as it sounds, and totally doesn't do anything weird if you mess up slightly.

PSA: with sufficient SNR, there is no such thing as a simple ring-like circumstellar disk. They are all asymmetric and none of their scattering phase functions may be reasonably approximated with one or two Henyey-Greenstein SPFs.
Spatially resolving a disk at SNRE > 200 is awesome right up until you get to modeling the little bastard.
