The first study modelled what the risks are of babies developing HepB (which can cause severe liver damage) of deferring the vax for 2m, “shared decision making” to decide on vax or having vax at birth. Both the former were riskier with RFKJrs preferred route of shared decisions the riskiest.

So maybe the momentum from this can be used to remedy the larger tragedy: newborns in Guinea-Bissau do not currently receive HepB vax at birth, despite a HepB infection rate of 5% in the Guinea-Bissau population.

Just noticed something bizarre. Study funding stayed the same between v. 1 & 2 of the protocol, right? How is this possible when v. 2 added testing 14k women for HepB? I assume vaccines are free (donations?) but what about HepB testing?
