Illicit metal detecting is theft of our Heritage, a loss to our knowledge, understanding and any artefact's provenance.

It's damaging not only to the land and environment but to all ethical law abiding detectorists too.

Disturbing #HeritageCrime an object that has meaning to place and people, forms part of our shared heritage. Such a shame for #Shropshire
Some decided to damage Scrooge's Gravestone in St Chad's. Quite disappointing that someone felt it fun to damage something that has been there for 40 years and has become a quirky tourist attraction.

It has been reported to the police. If anyone witnessed whoever did it can you get in touch.

No criticism here because most archaeologists don't receive training in dealing with #HeritageCrime.

The rule is, if you find evidence of illegal metal detecting, for example, it is a potential crime scene.

Don't touch anything, even to tidy up and call the Police, reporting a #HeritageCrime.
Really annoyed right now. So many people do the right thing, but not the theiving criminals who metal detected this Scheduled Monument on the Esk. They not only illegally detected, they couldnt even be arsed to replace the turves. Which I have now...but who knows what evidence they've taken.
