I think any phenomenon that has a noticeable change in trend or direction in roughly 2010-2012 should be considered to be phone or SM-related until proven otherwise

The latest iteration of trying to find a justification for the AI bubble is that it will do your life admin for you. It really reminds me of the Life Hacks fad of geeks pitching algorithmic or heuristic tools to everyone else using web tech.

Yes, true. The actual behavior of the person (the argument, data, research, etc.) could be perfectly legit but as you note it's a good heuristic to know they have a past history of plagiarism, etc.
