i've noticed this too. i think there's something about the size of the userbase here and the networks they came with/operate in that means it's more readily apparent than on twitter that this place is several distinct hobbyist/interest forums stapled together under the auspices of a "platform"

People have to understand that these old reviews were being done by non professional journalists and instead by gamers/hobbyist who were in the death grips of "maturing" (i.e. immaturely disliking "kiddy stuff"). A lot of old reviews are like this.

Yeah, that’s what I mean. The hobbyist receivers do those calculations. Anyone who’s ever tried to do a long road trip with only the radio for entertainment knows that you can tell when you’re closer to a signal vs farther away.

bro,,, the "authors what friends, not an audience" has been a thing fandom old's have been circulating more loudly & its been tough for fandom to adjust because we do HAVE popular fanartists that do curate audience to survive/for work. It's a catch 22 - I may be a hobbyist but others also utilize

this is a great way to understand socmed and probably is a reason why i dont gel with “bring back forums“ stuff because I don’t enjoy single interest or hobbyist spaces. this is also why every discord server I have run has At most two text channels and they are both ”general”

I see regularly my stuff reposted, cropped, modified, copied and so on
But i think it has less to do with "me" than it has to do with the subject of my work
I'm a hobbyist, i borrow an IP i don't own so i can't control everything that happens to my work once i decide to show it on the internet
