Anyway.

Happy Every Day is Indigenous People's Day.

For NYers who desperately want to celebrate an Italian who never set foot in North America, I suggest changing Columbus Circle to Artemesia Gentileshci Circle, complete with a new statue in direct conversation with the eponymous rapist tower.

Good evening.

How I envisioned retirement.

How it's going. That's not The Mr. in #2 to be clear.

Artemisia Gentileschi's goriest version of Judith Slaying Holofernes, because it's awesome.

I would stare at it reverently every day (looooong description in alt text).

Engraving by Claude Mellan of the painting "Judith and the Head of Holofernes" (1624-1626) by Italian painter Virginia da Vezzo (wife of French painter Simon Vouet).

Probably one of the Judith beheading Holofernes paintings and install it at a local Women's Aid office.

My contribution for the Strongest - a fanzine raising money for Venezuela after this year's devastating earthquakes. You can it on tumblr and twitter under the handle levifanzine. The art is based on Klimt's Judith and the Head of Holofernes.

Right now You
are a discarded blade
as Judith stands watch
and her Maidservant
Abra wraps Holofernes
head in a sack
murder sopped
an instrument of justice
Wrath is the tail
of a comet replete
with fire and iron
culminating in ice #poem #poetry

@morgangd.com and I went to see an exhibition of Artemisia at the national gallery a couple of years back, and they had two versions of Judith Slaying Holofernes next to each other. The PG one was pretty powerful, but the extra gory X-rated one was out of this world.

As another reader has noticed, this painting is by Artemisia Gentileschi (1593-1654)--born in Rome, but with an international career, including time working in Florence, Venice, England, and (the then kingdom of) Naples. She painted a series of Judith and Holofernes paintings.

Lo primero es eliminar las pensiones públicas de un plumazo.
Entiéndase lo de plumazo como la firma en el BOE.
El Holofernes de Alberto le susurra que sin sangre.

Today I got to see this painting in person in Florence. It’s one of my favourite paintings in the world. It’s called Judith Slaying Holofernes by Artemisia Gentileschi.

If you don’t mind I’d like to tell you a bit about it.

I can usually detect what was supposed to be funny, and I'm really at a loss here. Revenge-murder for her success? The power of wealth? The misogyny of rich people? Kathy Griffith was canceled for making an art history joke, though she was making very good point en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judith_...
