You make a video saying that Homarids are in danger of type-errata unless they gain a unique mechanical identity.

Specifically you prescribe caring about Tide counters.

2 years later Mystery Booster Commander prints Rikala Homarid King, a legend which cares about Tide counters!

Why not homarid when homarid shaped?

I am beyond thrilled to finally share my first legendary monster for Magic the Gathering. I present to you, Rikala, Homarid King! The piece is traditional with a digital color finish. Details and more on the blog: christopherburdett.blogspot.com/2026/08/rika... #Rikala #mtgart #mtgartist #homarid

And at that point, why not just make it a Homarid? We already have lobster-men and lobsteroids.

If you haven’t watched the video, two extremely hype concept arts to keep in mind going into Nauctis.

No HOMARID support. Throw the whole set in the trash.

🐙New Video🦀

Magic: The Gathering has axed a lot of creature types over the years, and it's our duty to protect the endangered ones that remain!

thought about pitching a road trip with cal where we hand deliver all these, but real life obligations got in the way (writing about the mysterious deep sea trench linking sarpadia to the terisian isles, and thus facilitating homarid migration far further north than they were even meant to go)
That’s a lot of shirts that say Rhystic Studies on ‘em

Homarid commander?

given the recent (seemingly, at least) Homarid errata to Lobster, there's a strong chance that this goofball will be the final Homarid printed as such in magic. Fwiw i love this boy in my mill deck in standard, but.

Yee Haw.

Ethan and I always wanted to make a Homarid, Winters was in as long as it looked good, and Jehan made sure it did. The puzzle was a delightful gesture that we really appreciated, but there would've been a homarid in the file either way.

I can confirm that the puzzle isn't the sole or primary reason Homarid Explorer exists. With me and @ethanfleischer.bsky.social on the team, someone would have had to physically stop us from putting a Homarid in. The puzzle was a kind of "well now we HAVE to" moment. The fans demand it! Well, a fan.

On that note, this seems like a perfect Homarid #PendragonMTG deck.

If you can't find Shamen in the store, Homarid works just fine ☺️

Really enjoyed Rhystic Studies' look at Fallen Empires, a set very dear to me. Sam speculates that Homarid Explorer in Dominaria may have been inspired by a puzzle sent to R&D by @loreleywrites.bsky.social, though notes that Loreley dismisses this theory. I can shed some light! (🧵)
Fallen Empires was an abject disaster that should’ve killed Magic dead. 31 years have passed. We're all still here.

Condensing the number of creature types in Magic to lower complexity/allow more synergy between cards is reasonable - losing Viashino is a fair trade off.

But the loss of Viashino and Homarid in one breath, and adding Gorn and Talosian in the next reeks of one hand not talking to the other.
