Fun fact: many bathrooms have opted to not have hooks on the door because thieves reach over the top and steal your purse while your pants are down. One airport removed the hooks and the thieves installed new hooks.

Lots of folks have pointed to ideological reasons transphpbia lends itself to further radicalization and they're right, but also there's also movement reasons: transphobia is one of the big recruitment hooks of the far right, along with anti-immigrant sentiment and crime panic hysteria.
Without really being able to say why this is I actually think that transphobia has an unusually high propensity to drive its proponents off the wall. Just based on casual observation and vibes, but it seems to me that people who become Gender Bigots seem to get obsessive and chauvinist real quick.
I think there’s been a rhetorical tendency to say “they won’t stop at trans people! they’re coming for everyone else too!” and while that has always been true for the US religious right aspect of this, it *wasn’t* true for many of the people leading the UK movement, and now it increasingly is.

yeah this isn't a coincidence. AI / automation also hooks into a deep enslavement fantasy -- the robot worker who is endlessly obliging without making any demands on the master / boss. a worker you can exploit endlessly without even "feeling bad"
So interesting how everyone in big lead roles is positioning AI as "oh well we just don't want to bother people! I'm just so particular and it would be annoying and hard!"
