walking away towards the horizon, but from your perspective I'm not getting any smaller with distance

I’m nearly a decade seeing the tweets of bigots and fascists, daily. Never once has it broadened my horizon or changed my perspective. It’s miserable and dysfunctional
Opinion - The problem with Bluesky: It won’t broaden our horizons: In the wake of Donald Trump’s election win, the social-media platform has enjoyed a surge of new users looking for an alternative to Elon Musk’s X. But will it be useful, if it just creates an echo chamber for the left?

(this post is anti perspective police but pro horizon lines it is a nuanced issue)

The soft cushions of the couch let out a dull thud as you flopped your listless body onto them. No words escaped your mouth, only a trailing sigh as you stare at the far horizon beyond the window. It was a rather odd sight from an outsider's perspective, a beautiful sunset vista stretched out >>>

Hallgrímskirkja, the tallest building
in Reykjavik, from a slightly different
perspective

doesn’t it look like a road to the horizon?

Little perspective trick to have characters standing at different depths in the scene; if you think of the character like a geometric object like any other, they scale towards the horizon like any object. A quick way to eyeball this is they’ll intersect the horizon at the same place at any scale

when i took an illustration class i was taught perspective by drawing cubes in relation to a horizon and it just did not click for me

it wasn’t until i started using references and fudging perspective to look GOOD rather than “correct” did backgrounds become fun to draw
I think this ties into a greater piece of advice I usually hove people of “stop fighting the way you draw”. Like, backgrounds will feel like pulling teeth if you’re trying to fight all your instincts to make them look like someone else drew them
Controversial opinion but backgrounds are only as hard as you make them. Stop comparing yourself to ghibli and treat them as part of the experience to the characters. Not only part of the story but part of the characters as well. They don't have to be super detailed but they do have to contribute

seriously consider this testimony. is it just perspective-widening music. when you return to it your mind goes "oh wow I remember how this expanded our horizon"
True story. I remember the first time I heard the Bartok string quartets in the same way I remember the first time I heard electric Miles.
tomorrow is Béla Bartók's birthday fyi. set aside some time to listen to his string quartets, to really listen. very very worth your time, you will remember the day you put aside your other work to listen to the Bartok quartets.

From the Needles District, Island in the Sky appears as a massive, flat-topped mesa dominating the northern horizon. Situated approximately 1,000 feet lower than the mesa, the Needles offers a perspective of a towering, sheer-walled 'island' of rock floating above the surrounding canyons.

Low angle perspective is a great visual storytelling tool. Reminds me of THE FABLEMANS where David Lynch, as director John Ford, explains how horizon placement creates interest. So, hopefully, this low horizon captures your interest.

I'm going for the Subway Surfer-ish perspective! The POV feels best and I think it'll be the fun to play with.

Here's the rough setup so far, where I tested a neat curved perspective trick to hide the horizon! :D Tutorial linked below!
