Yes, the changing place of horses in our society is a huge field of study and can tell us a lot about wider societal changes. Interesting in First World War too how the British army sought to recruit more men skilled in horsemastership to bolster dilution of horse skills in the New Armies.

🐴 Last Friday we held our Horsemastership session looking at "Points of the Horse" - Treacle and Poppet were both very well behaved whilst we identified their hocks, crests, chestnuts and much more!

The British Army encouraged horse shows behind the lines. They helped solidify the equine-soldier bond, allowed men to practise their horsemastership skills and instilled a sense of individual responsibility in troops for the welfare of their animals.
