Some of my photos included in the Places in Time piece were taken at the site of the old Ted Gilbert Lookout.

What a cool spot that was to visit. The allure is understandable.

A sign I saw today in Albuquerque: “Please do NOT feed the prairie dogs”, right near a streetside field full of prairie dog hummocks.

Meanwhile, someone else wasn't interested in being seen at the moment.

We talked it out. It got better.

A highlight from my first day at the mountain back in July — seeing a friend while hiking the Hummocks Trail.

Pretty neat moment.

And yon we went, beyond the glen
Asweat on hummocks ‘til the fen
Where each man in the hollow drank
Midst morning dew, and hoobastank

Without having any exact knowledge of geology, I had from the first been interested in the odd mounds and hummocks of the region.

We lament that recently subsidized 7,000-pound electric SUVs have been replacing 4,000-pound sedans. But a 20,000+ pound rear axle of a city bus does a thousand-fold more damage to our roadways.

Come for the volcano, but stay for the skanking.

Went up to Nopiming for the first time since the fire.

It’s all like this, all of it. The entire park. Apocalyptic. It was so hot against the rocks that the blueberry regrowth was often crisped and dead, berries withered dry on browned-off stems.

Setting up a new monitoring plot for the reintroduction of S. austinii at Kingsdale Head Farm. This species is excellent at forming large hummocks, which could play an important role in making #Peatlands more resilient to #ClimateChange. #SphagnumMonday #GreatNorthBog
