The HVAC used to keep those data centers running are perfect for hospital settings as well.

Not needing to run the HVAC for three weeks will do that to you.

And don't get me started on finding out during a routine HVAC inspection that we need to replace both HVAC units in our 14 year old house. Everything is breaking at once and costs gazillion dollars.

To clarify, I’m in a budget travel hotel and the HVAC unit just has… a number… which is not a temperature… which you can turn up or down… without any idea of what exactly you are setting it to.

IME usually that means HVAC trouble

The HVAC company that installed my heat pumps last year in NH said that they rarely replace an oil burner with another oil burner now. It's mostly heat pumps, then propane.
Super important story. People in rural areas in the Northeast, where heating with oil is still a thing, will have wildly high energy bills this winter. Switching to heat pumps is a very clear cost and climate win in this context, but can government agencies and the HVAC industry get the job done?
20% of Massachusetts homes use heating oil -- and with prices at record highs, families are facing a bank-breaking winter.

I spoke with several people who are feeling anxious, and then looked at the landscape for assistance @wbur.org

had the hvac guy out to diagnose our compressor and when i explained the way the mini splits were hooked up to it he leaned against the house and put his head in his hands

Norm, they built an extension on the back of the house, ran hvac ducting through the new attic, and didn’t create a hatch to the new attic. I’m going to have to pay someone to knock a new door into it.

I thought it was bad when my HVAC company did this. Medical docking should never

New HVAC system for my house. Had to spend a ton of money I don’t have, but springing for an air scrubber was life changing.
what is a satisfying purchase as an adult

There is no adult purchase less satisfying than new tires.

A suspected cyberattack has affected refrigeration systems used by supermarkets and food storage businesses in six European countries.

The Netherlands is the latest country impacted, with at least 17 businesses reporting disruptions overnight, including butcher shops and frozen food facilities.

Success ;) $6 part.

Purchased part from an HVAC biz after work; had it all put back together in time to hit the gym. Probably saved $375 (vacuumed the blower too).
No, I’m not an HVAC tech, but I tore into my gas furnace today (access panels, exhaust piping, behind circuit board, to blower) to find the capacitor. Given the symptoms, 90% or better probability this $15 part is the culprit.

Will report out when part is located & installed. (unit: Trane XR80)

I worked in BAS/HVAC controls 08-11. In the old days with unconnected systems, there was a ton of wasted energy and maintenance was more difficult. Been many decades since HVAC did not have BAS controls. For refrigeration, pressure sensors notify about bad compressors before food loss.
