Puna patrol officers received the report of the missing man at noon on Monday, October 19th. The man was last known to be in the Volcano area and had not been seen for more than 24 hours. Due to his age, the man was considered endangered.

HPPA's Mariana captured this elegant image, framed by branches, of the first bird she spotted at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes NP after we hired her just recently. She said she was excited, even though the white-eye is a non-native bird. As she said: it's still a cutie!

The Holei Sea Arch had been showing signs of instability for years. In 2022, large surf from Tropical Storm Darby took a chunk of the natural sea arch and park rangers warned it could collapse at any time.
