Walk along the waterfront, check out whatever looks cool; get down to point pleasant park in the south end if you like big forest city parks; discovery centre is good esp. for kids; most restaurants & pubs are v. good but especially the narrows on gottingen; the hydrostone for cafes.

Would’ve been right about now on this date I was sitting on my front porch in the Hydrostone listening to 880 WCBS NY which boomed in every night. My neighbour said “pretty sure the world is gonna suck now” and I think of that moment a lot.

It’s all the plasters, even hydrocal, hydrostone. All of them. The company is going more industrial and doing just sheet rock it seems. Hoping Reynolds can secure its own formula cause wow, what a huge hit to the art industry

Again, generally I agree, but I think this is a rare case where that applies to the neighbourhood as a whole. Is there another comparable or better example of something like the Hydrostone in NS. It's a situation where the context of the whole matters as much as the individual parts.

all of the hydrostone fits in 2 car dealerships. there is lots of empty land left to develop before we get to a point where that should be an option.

I'm sympathetic to eg the Hydrostone Market but my general ethos is to preserve the best example of X rather all of X, to the extent that I would preserve anything at all.

While I agree on Westmount and generally in principle, I think that the Hydrostone does deserve some protections based on historical associations with the Halifax Explosion, unique designs and building materials (for the period/area), and as an example of a planned neighbourhood from the era.

I don't view them as particularly special or noticeable tbh, but my criteria for heritage generally involves more age criteria than most people, and even then I would aim for exemplars more than whole neighbourhoods.

Had a lovely day with my sister. Lunch at the Brown Hound with a friend and her puppy, popped into the Hydrostone shops bought a ring at Lady Luck, and then Richmond Yards for a coffee and some chocolate covered licorice. Home in time for the Real Madrid game.

That stretch of Hydrostone has been feeling a bit drab lately, especially given it's heritage status. The parkette feels dead, no proper life/plants, minimal seating, and what's there is dated. Would love to see a pedestrian focused revamp here.
