*Doctor-directed. Since her initial thyroid test was barely into hyperthyroid territory, they wanted to re-do a baseline bc she doesn't have any of the secondary hyperthyroid symptoms. 🤷♀️

Sadly, things aren't going well for our house panther. She's been fighting hyperthyroid for several months, and now she's starting to lose control and have convulsions. Taking her to the doc tomorrow but I don't have a lot of hope for her.

I'd do the opposite of what he just said. I used to be severely hyperthyroid... your blood pressure and heart rate can go off the charts. That's why it's dangerous to have. You'll want to keep an eye on that too with a home blood pressure monitor so they know to put you on beta blockers or not.

We lost our ginger cat last month. He was 15 years old. Sadly, we didn't connect his large appetite to his being hyperthyroid. He had a stroke and couldn't stand up anymore. Now we are a one cat household for the first time ever.

FYI: There's a liquid version of methimazole (the hyperthyroid med) called Felanorm. Lucky me, I have 2 elderly hyperthyroid cats, and one won't tolerate either pills or transdermal. He's on 2.5 mg 2x a day, and it ends up being just a few drops of the liquid, which I mix into wet food.

Also: The transdermal isn't absorbed as well as oral meds. I had the other hyperthyroid cat on the transdermal for a while after being on the pills, and his thyroid numbers went the wrong direction.

As former hyperthyroid patient for ages before ablation, I'm wondering if cats have regular blood tests like humans do when on carbimazole? For humans, gradual reduction of dose towards euthyroid state is the aim but my dose often needing upping again to prevent thyrotoxicosis (autoimmune)
