#hyphenating
I think the term "Heritage-American" demonstrates an inability to assimilate. Why do these people insist on hyphenating themselves!

Raleigh is 25 miles away from Durham

Hyphenating the two feels like saying “that’s my ex”

Honestly at this point I’m starting to see people hyphenating antisemitism as a red flag.

Women taking on their husband's name after marriage: antiquated, too much paperwork

Women hyphenating after marriage: slightly better

Husband and wife both hyphenating: getting closer

Merging both surnames into a new super surname: Hell Yeah

Hyphenating phrasal adjectives in line with the Chicago Manual.
What would your pedantry bot be, friends?
I'm trying to think of what sort of pedantry account I'd run if i got into that game

I think it would be cool if we stopped hyphenating "role-playing."

Hyphenating is mostly for new words. No one besides the New Yorker hyphenates teen-ager, for example. Let's free ourselves of the AP Stylebook. Roleplaying is older than nearly every activity added to the dictionary since 2005.

Quick reminder if you’re joining in condemning Kanye (and I hope you are!) a gentle nudge about not hyphenating antisemitism:
Lot of conversation about antisemitism this week so just a gentle reminder that we don’t hyphenate the word, because it implies there is such a thing as a “Semitic” race (there isn’t, there’s only Semitic language) - and implying there is a Jewish race is of course deadly for the Jews. More info:

So let’s make a list and agree on the order. Put it somewhere widely accessible. Start small, everyone hyphenating the name for clarity: Hurricane Milton-Exxon.
I think they ought to start naming them after major corporations who contribute significantly to climate change. Hurricane British Petroleum. Hurricane Nestle.
Deadly hurricanes shouldn't be called Milton. We should let the Norwegian black metal bands name these things.

Delighted at their hyphenating "how-did". It's always fun to get a little window into how people parse language.

Can't believe I'm being cancelled for hyphenating "girly-pop" instead of writing it as "girly pop" or "girlypop"
I can't believe that @vexwerewolf.bsky.social is a literary centrist 🙄

Managed to make hyphenating fighter jets not the dumbest thing here, impressive
President Trump’s UFC fight on Sunday appeared to offer everything a young American man could want: fighter-jets, pyrotechnics and Octagon girls. But would this masculine spectacle help young men to forgive and forget their growing disappointment with Trump?

If I can ask everyone to stop hyphenating antisemitism I can be better about capitalizing the B in Black.

(This is an accountability thread. Please hold me to account on it.)
