This is called iready. It’s math and reading. It ain’t new and it ain’t AI.
Linda McMahon: "AI is definitely a tool used correctly. I've seen it in action. I have visited the Alpha School in Austin, Texas, where they use AI for the first two hours every single morning. The students have their headsets on, they are watching their computers ... it is incredibly effective"

Wait what is the dirty truth behind science of reading? My kids' school uses iReady so I'm curious what the deal/concern is

This is where ed tech parasites like iReady come in--keeping different groups of students occupied with Chromebook busywork so teachers can do their real job with smaller groups.

That's what you do in giant classes without trained paraeducators. I'm grateful our teachers do it so little!

And don’t get me started on the whole notion of 3-minute passing period between classes.

Their afternoon is a 70-min class followed by a 90-min class. THREE MINUTES in between.

This isn’t learning. It’s grim endurance, punctuated by worthless iReady assessments. Worse than Lord of the Rings.

I do not like Class Dojo and Splash Learning constantly trying to upsell me, and all the typos in the iReady reading assignments piss me off.

She’s getting grades for the first time, and I can see her fixate on proudly checking her list of A pluses. But they’re for stuff like…wearing her full PE uniform, signing a syllabus?

And I’ve seen the maddening iReady bullshit assessments she has to waste class time on. Gah. Ed tech parasites.

typical growth is an iReady term and metric based upon the instruction and testing for the process

consideration of the range for the survey response for the student input to use their terms or something they would identify with rather than the 'strongly agree' or 'strongly disagree' ...

discussion on the various ways to adjust the survey, more pointed, spread out, use a single q on the newsletter...

iReady stats would be part of the systems goal as one of the data points for use in assessment

consider paper based input for survey as well

I'm about to read this article but just chiming in to say I freaking *loathe* iready
September 21, 2026 at 12:27 PM
His math teacher last year couldn’t reliably tell me what kind of math he was doing on iReady (bc she couldn’t see it) and it soured me on that part of the curriculum. This year BCPSS is restricting screen time so I’m hoping for better

I am very skeptical myself, which is why we didn’t start there! I think they mostly concentrate kids w some social privileges too but a lot of Cub’s math curriculum last year was him doing problems on iReady (software). I think the closest charter doesn’t do that, has kids in our neighborhood, j

I AHTE iready and Ilearn. Yeah there 100% isn’t enough support staff and too many administrators.

Thanks! Especially like having to use iReady scores as a back up to NYS' new online test scores. 🤦🏼‍♂️

iReady is NOT a Dyslexia Screener!!!
September 17, 2026 at 11:26 AM
maybe THIS time iReady will do something besides make students hate going to school
September 16, 2026 at 10:47 PM
Exactly! This is why I’m so mad at the automated iReady assessments that don’t seem to tell the students or their teachers what they got wrong, so they can learn.

For some bright, self-motivated learners who prefer individual work, such a tech-based model could achieve many goals. But anyone advocating this for ALL kids needs to remember how remote instruction went in 2020-21, or read up on how iReady is going for the millions of students forced to use it.

In the iReady case my understanding is that the assessment part and MyPath are two separate things and the DOE pays for the former but not the latter?

The AI ban is all well and good but if it just means that overworked teachers continue to rely on iReady instead then it really isn't accomplishing much
