Kingdom of Heaven – the director's cut, anyway – is one of my favourite medieval films despite its utterly appalling inaccuracies. Topped by: no...Balian of Ibelin was in fact not a blacksmith and it is ludicrous beyond reason to have him be one.

There was anti-imperial faction led by the Ibelin family, supported by the legal arguments of Philip of Novara, who said that the ancient precedent in Jerusalem was that the king actually had to be there in person.

A great scene from Ridley Scott’s 2005 film “Kingdom of Heaven.”
Salahuddin questions whether it would be better if the Crusaders raze Jerusalem which “drives men mad?”
Balian of Ibelin asks Salahuddin “What is Jerusalem worth?” And he replies “Nothing… EVERYTHING.”

On this day the siege of Jerusalem of 1187 ends with Balian of Ibelin surrendering the city to Saladin, bargaining safe pssage for people leaving the city.
The Canadian Melodic Death Metal band Aeternam has a song about the siege on their 2017 album Ruins Of Empires titled "Damascus Gate".

On this day 2nd October 1187 Balian of Ibelin surrendered Jerusalem to the great Muslim general & Ayyubid King Slaahuddin (Saladin) represented so wonderfully by Ridley Scott in the epic Hollywood film "Kingdom of Heaven."

"Crusader proverb"?????
It's a quote from the 2005 film Kingdom of Heaven. Uttered by the fictional character Godfrey of Ibelin.
Mostly fantasy. I guess that's what Ryan Bridge deals in?

The Balian of Ibelin you meet in Kingdom of Heaven is a French blacksmith who discovers he's the illegitimate son of a crusader nobleman.
The real Balian was a member of one of the most powerful families in the Kingdom of Jerusalem.

Usikker.
