#ice40
hmm that would pretty much require an ECP5, the ICE40 is a bit too small

**Interesting SPI Routing with iCE40 FPGAs**

I wrote about iCE40 FPGAs, and why the way an FPGA is configured can lead to interesting board design decisions. @mith.ro's Fomu is a useful study due to eschewing a USB-Serial chip for accessing the FPGA and SPI flash.

Hey folks, I have a handful of pre-tariff built RPGA Feather available if you’re interested in snagging one. I have a handful of mini panels left so I can hold this price for the next few I assemble. I’m not sure how many I’ll make after that though. www.tindie.com/products/347...

while the iCE40 doesn't officially support 1.2v IO banks it will definitely work fine if you undervolt the 1.8v IO :)

in about a day's work i learned WiX and built an MSI installer for #GlasgowInterfaceExplorer! look at it, it includes everything (Python, Yosys, nextpnr-{ice40,ecp5}, Python libraries, the manual) in a package that is just under 90 MB and fully self-contained.

I respect the GameTank project's "moxie" but $299 is kind of a lot considering I can¹ get a Mister for half that and I can² also plug a $30 ice40 FPGA directly into VGA and synthesize a simple riscv chip to run a game on it. Just like. I don't know. I don't know

¹ did
² intend to sometime this year

ICYMI I wrote about how FPGAs are configured and why that can lead to some interesting SPI routing on Lattice iCE40 development boards.

i implemented Ascon-Hash256 in Amaranth! (as well as laid the groundwork for the rest of Ascon family functions, including Ascon-AEAD128)

it comes at 1268 LUTs for iCE40 in the "compact" configuration, processing an average of 5.3 bit/cycle. a little […]

This is how you do image recognition in cheap surveillance cameras & autonomous killer drones. Yea, maybe it's "AI" but it's NOT a language model.

Just a cheap FPGA chip and some good, old-fashioned algorithms

I have released Sentinel v0.1.0-beta.2.

Sentinel is my microcoded RISC-V CPU core written in Amaranth. It fits in ~1000 LUTs and ~400 FFs on an ice40 FPGA. It implements RV32I_Zicsr and the M Mode privileged spec, and passes the RISCOF and RISC-V Formal test suites.

Sentinel is my microcoded RV32I_Zicsr FPGA core. It implements the Unprivileged and Privileged Spec in ~1000 iCE40 logic cells (but insns are multicycle).

It'll be 1 year since I announced it on Nov 29th. I'd like to cut a release for it. We'll see.
