Adding all the gold extras and lettering on the aquamarine, and the stars. I am very pleased with the results considering it is only my 2nd ever icon. Only possible thanks to the amazing teaching of Andrew De Smet and all at St Bede's in York @awatercolouraday.bsky.social #iconpainting

Some painting at last! Starting with Avena Ochre with a dash of moss red for the grounding of the faces.Think I overdid the red! Painting will progress from dark to light, thankfully. BURNT umber for Jesus' hair. Zinc white and moss red for the mantel. @awatercolouraday.bsky.social #iconpainting

Surprisingly, perhaps, it is the gilding first. Starting with a moss red ground using an egg ylk support. Then gilding size and leafs of Cornielsen 24 ct gold leaf. Dry pigments mixed with egg yolk water and a dash of vinegar. @awatercolouraday.bsky.social #iconpainting
