Beat Blade Chimera.
I dunno if it's my favorite Igavania-style game but it's definitely up there. Every so often you play a game that cares so much about how responsive it is that you wonder what the fuck everyone else is doing. Great systems too.

If you want a fine igavania with okay aesthetics it is that. (This sounds like a dig but isn't really - I am always ready for a fine igavania myself. but I would also welcome something more adventurous or distinctive looking)

It's taken years to come to this conclusion, but non igavania castlevania games are better than the igavanias. I want more games in the "cautious action" genre.

Blade Chimera is the first 2025 game I've beaten and it will almost certainly be on my top 10 list for the year. It's probably the closest thing to a IGAvania without IGA actually being involved AND it has a bunch of stuff that makes it feel unique.

Shuturo's contributions to Castlevania (which also include game design assistance on Curse of Darkness) ran the gamut from general game/system design to programming player-characters, enemies, stage gimmicks, level design and even storywriting—they, as much as anyone, were the soul of the "IGAvania"

mainly i'm thinking about lament of innocence, and to a lesser extent curse of darkness. (yes because of the vampire survivors dlc lol). i've never played either despite being a big castlevania fan, and in particular an igavania fan
