#immigrans
immigration is a furphy.
People want egalitarianism at the core of Govt
everyone shares in the wealth gains.

When that doesnt happen they look for causes and immigrans are the easy pick.

Govt needs to focus on sharing the pie more equallt as well as groeing it.

Ant War! Rival pavement ant (Tetramorium immigrans) colonies duke it out over territory and food. This image shows them fighting in trenches and on the streets. Fortunately for all sides, the wars are more like mass wrestling matches, with few fatalities. I notice these skirmishes every few years.

I thought NYC was so cool since we have our own introduced ant. (it's not good that it was introduced, but it's kind of neat to have a NYC only ant in the US)

But I just found out that in St. Louis they have Tetramorium tsushimae ... it's replacing their Tetramorium immigrans.

It's not really […]

Although Tetramorium immigrans is no longer regarded as a "pest" despite being introduced to the US about 100 years ago. In fact they play an important role in urban ecosystems.

I don't want to think about NYC would be like without them.

There is a WAR for the whole city and sometimes I feel like the only person who knows about it.

Lasius neoniger is more common than ever, but these ants always start too many colonies in the most goofy locations only a slim few will still be around in spring.

The Tetramorium immigrans are […]

Do I sometimes leave a plastic fork covered with Tetramorium immigrans where it is and come back for it later because the girls aren't "done" maybe. Maybe I do.

Tetramorium immigrans! Powerful yet small, numerous and fearless. I've always been a little scared to keep a colony since I thought they'd get "out of control"

Right now all 15 of them are trying to hide under their mother who is also tiny and it's not working […]

The Camponotus pennsylvanicus ants open one or two new pupae each day. Steady growth. The Tetramorium immigrans queen lays her eggs in batches. I […]

My Tetramorium immigrans has made excellent progress. Her larvae are now pupae for the most part (you can tell because they are now ant-shaped with legs) immigrans does not spin silk cocoons as my carpenter ants do. The queen keeps them clean and safe as they […]

Ants swarm from underneath a sidewalk now.

iNat suggests these are Tetramorium immigrans, the Immigrant Pavement Ant, which came from Europe and are now a pest here. 🌿

Republicans speak out against immigrans assaulting white women.

They say nothing aboout Epstein connected paedophiles assaulting white 13yo victims.

Do they support victims, or are they just using victims to promote their RACIST ideas?

They are White Supremacists.

likely, though we probably would still be doing just as fucked up shit to native americans or chinese or mexican immigrans in the late 1800s/early 1900s just the same so maybe not

Today on my half-mile walk to the bus stop I stepped over five "ant wars" between pavement ant colonies. I saw four yesterday as well. They are most likely Tetramorium immigrans. This species is also parasitized by another ant species. It's a brutal time of year to be a pavement ant!

Being Tetramorium immigrans isn't easy. Spider lurk near your nest entrance. Rude curious little acorn ants try to sneak in over and over even after you tell them "no soliciting" ... NO we don't want a tiny guest to "help" share our food!

I'm proud of this portrait of Tetramorium immigrans (tramp pavement ant) that I feel captures their ethos. Outside of Yankee Tavern a bar by the stadium in the Bronx. These ants have thrived on baseball snacks and dropped chicken wings for over a decade.

They […]

But, in deep time there must have been many supercolonies. Many takeovers, many changes. And here is NYC we can see one happening in real time!

Will immigrans hold on to the south Bronx? Stay tuned to find out.

Both immigrans and emarginatus are formidable tramps.

Yes. "tramps" this I'm told […]

We attribute this kind of change to the way that humans spread species all over the place sometimes causing environmental disasters.

But, no one is going to have a protest with "Save Tetramorium immigrans" signs. They are also an introduced species. Though they have been in the US for over 100 […]

15 years ago if someone said that they saw a lot of little brown/black ants in Manhattan gathering food or out on the side walk you could be safe guessing it was Tetramorium immigrans the pavement ant. But today? You'd be more likely to be correct saying Lasius emarginatus. The pavement ants are […]

Today I watched Tetramorium immigrans and Lasius emarginatus two invasive ant species settling a border dispute by a sidewalk tree.

Then a new little black ant arrived of another species... it was Linepithema humile which is also invasive.

So we had immigrans, who has been here for about 100 […]
