THIS!
Rural Saskies had learned from Indigeneous groups about fire stewardship and burned 'x' many years when grasses dangerously accumulated.
A careless butt thrown out a car window or lightning strike would call out neighbours who'd rather be harvesting/milking.
For more than a century, colonial policies disrupted and outlawed Indigenous cultural burning.

Now, a new poll suggests Canadians are broadly supportive of Indigenous fire stewardship. “It’s about time,” says one former Indigenous fire deputy chief in British Columbia.
After decades of suppression, Canadians are embracing Indigenous cultural burns

Canada is too conservative now for me to believe there will be real resolutions in place to protect the Indigenous population.

There are hundreds of academic articles that speak on how Conservativism systematically perpetuates Anti-Blackness, Anti-Indigeneous, and Anti-Intellect outcomes.

But remember, no colonialism. These indigeneous people were never invaded, occupied or colonised. They ummmm, just joined Russia because they wanted it so much (or whatever nonsense tankies believe in).

Case in point - would it be okay to do horrible things to a minority *if you were indigeneous/'more indigenous'*?

(see also 'minorities' - an easy short hand because numbers frequently matter - but no magical guarantee that 'majorities' can't also be subject to abuse)

The irony about the Irish is that they identify with Gazans, considering both indigeneous martyrs to colonisers. Now, nearly 100% of the Irish carry Celtic heritage&genome: The Celts came from the Alps (Germany&Austria)
Meanwhile, they treat their Travellers, genuinely indigenous to Ireland, abominably

Today in my country 🇻🇪 is Día de la Resistencia Indígena (Indigenous Resistance Day), a day in which we pay respects to the fight of the indigeneous people who defended themselves against colonization

(Originally meant to be a celebration of colonization by Spain when it was first declared by them)

Today, we celebrate Indigenous Peoples and recognize the amazing work that our Indigeneous childcare providers and teachers do in providing culturally relevant care to the next generation. We are grateful.

Indigeneous People’s Day is a good time to post this link to Manvir Singh’s 2023 New Yorker article arguing that our concept of indigeneity is not only fundamentally confused but also a relic of European colonialism. www.newyorker.com/magazine/202...
It’s Time to Rethink the Idea of the “Indigenous”
Many groups who identify as Indigenous don’t claim to be first peoples; many who did come first don’t claim to be Indigenous. Can the concept escape its colonial past?

I don't know brazil that well, but i at least know that bolsonaro is racist against black and indigeneous people.

It's probably not the only explanation, but i think that even in brazil, it's one of the main reason people are voting for him.

🇨🇦 The first steps of many but any step away from Trump’s America is a good thing!
Next step-
Ensuring our Indigeneous leaders & communities agree to terms and are in a position to prosper! #CanadaStrong 🇨🇦

it is utterly absurd to assuer that a settler colonialism that resulted in the death of 90% of the indigeneous population of Haida Gwaii could have resulted in a 'regular acquisition' of artefacts. That Valerie my former classmate is part of this is a disgrace. www.culanth.org/fieldsights/...

no hate (well...), but between israel in eurovision and canada in eu, i feel like western europe always finds grounds to bond w other countries, no matter how far away, if they pose as a civilized democracy which actually was built on the suffering of indigeneous people, sweept neatly under the rug
canada is gonna be in the eu before serbia... cut the cameras

It's unconscionable. A violation of human rights to criminalize people for being poor and unhoused. Among the unhoused, Saskatchewan has a very high % of Indigeneous and Black folks and children, who may also experience trauma, disabilities, addictions and violence. #skpoli #HousingFirst

"By rendering the iconic words [of the Declaration of Independence] into a language that is largely unreadable, she turns this foundational document into a coded, material sculpture to address the limitations of the text and text-based records."
