Third session on this rose study (part of a #PaulFoxton free course). Probably needs another layer when this dries. Need to get more mystery in. #oilpainting #oilroses #flowerpainting #floralart #indirectpainting

I put another two hours into the native bowl today. What a meticulous piece I chose! Very slow going and each mistake means you get to do the line agsin.... three times. Been working out idea changes for the background.
12 hours into the native bowl painting. Ready to put final decisions into background and blue foundation. Cactus spines are waiting for me to make up my mind!

Title: Harsh Fragility

Brushtime: 15 hrs. WIP

Oil on 9x12 inch canvas

So much learning has happened, and is happening, painting this piece.
My oil painting, Harsh Fragility. A Lot of learning has taken place doing this piece, from not having a firm plan in place to paint cloth to the meticulous detail inside the bowl. Planning! Planning is essential. I will finish the turquoise next, step one will be adding in the rest of the light blue, and shading the fabric folds, step two one more layer of Cadmium Red Deep on the background, step three a Pthalo Green Glaze to achieve Turquoise. A shadowbox set up reference photo of an ancient native bowl (about 800 years old) that was found in a load of fill dirt from a home my mother was having built in Globe, AZ. She found all the pieces and glued them back together. Here, the bowl is photographed on a turquoise cloth foundation with a deep crimson backdrop. It is pictured with a cholla cactus, a wildflower and a desert willow beanpod.

This was an attempt at digital painting, something that I am not personally very confident in. In this piece I specifically used the indirect painting method (layering colors instead of using the color directly)

A digital illustration in the style of a portrait, depicting the head and neck of a three eyed dragon. It's mouth is seemingly overflowing with flowers and leaves, which it's tongue is wrapped around. There is a round shape bordering the figure, and a decorative ribbon floats at the bottom of the shape, reading "BLOOM," in all capital letters.
