that's not smell. looks like the science is still out but possible mechanisms/ theories include sensing vibrations in the earth, pressure changes in the air, changes in the earth's magnetic field, or infrasonic (too deep for humans to hear) sounds

There should be a lot of infrasonic noise if you can also feel the vibration. You can’t block it, because the frequency is transmitted via the skull, and it is very disorienting while being only heard subconsciously.

Ozone is also not carcinogenic. The combined NOx + ozone would barely register (1-2 points worst case) in the AQI of the closest cities (Abbeville/Kaplan, about 30mi away). The noise at that distance shouldn't be problematic; most of the acoustic energy would be a deep infrasonic rumble.
