But we note that metacognition measures in interoception needs much development, so this exploratory finding needs to be interpreted with caution!

I worry that too many don't realize they can just get up and walk away to do it without disrupting others.

I worry they lack the interoception to pull that off 🥹

I sit with my interoception ("feelings") and aspire to a Zen sort of ability to both fully experience them and also then reflect with my best metacognitive strategies.

Exciting new research is helping us better understand how our lungs communicate with our brain—and could help lead to improving treatments for diseases like #Asthma and #Alzheimers.

#AutChat A1a: Kinda? This is a work in progress, but basically, understanding how being autistic relates to my emotional interoception issues, and how THAT feels relevant to my limited ability to experience attraction beyond aesthetic appreciation, does suggest that it's all connected somehow.
Q1: Did being autistic or similarly neurodivergent play a role in understanding your sexual, romantic, or other attractions/orientations? #AutChat

Prediction is key because the subjective experience of consciousness plausibly arises from the continuous, involuntary process in the brain of comparing predictions with sensory perception/interoception.

all just be able to get regular checkups and have doctors who actually listen to us. Also, all this externalized vigilance prevents a lot of people from developing interoception and creates a dynamic where people view their bodies as objects to be controlled and purified. This is pretty much a form

the debate: is this my anxiety disorder (ptsd), my autism (interoception & prepioception), or something new (somatic ocd) because im also a hyperchondriac (it's the autism dw)

He discussed how brain networks and their interactions change in schizophrenia, particularly highlighting hippocampal-based associative learning and its functional brain correlates. He also briefly shared about his work on thermoregulation and interoception.

so I'm not going to poke the neurodivergent people with poor interoception - whomst among us hasn't had to be reminded about hydration now and then - but the series of mistakes that had to occur for the next para to be possible has a depth of dysfunction such that I don't know how to start.
There are a lot of details in here about Zuck releasing a half-baked product, but one thing that really stands out is just how weird these folks are. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/09/t...

Once the neurons grow in (perception, interoception), and they realize they have needs (hunger, must maintain viability), limbs (action, intervention in the world), the prediction-perception feedback loop starts to flow, they begin to form a world model (memories) and boom! Emergent consciousness!

I’m very proud to share this work with you! Fiorella and the team spent a lot of time thinking deeply about recent results; why are interoception and mental health unrelated? We think the field must escape the “quiescence trap” to progress!

That 2-hour scroll isn't a willpower problem. When the real solution means facing something uncomfortable, your body reaches for the quickest relief available. Less shame means more capacity to act. #mindfullinked
Send this to someone who calls themselves lazy.

i knew rexies struggled w interoception when it came to hunger cues specifically but it's interesting that there isn't a lot of evidence for them struggling more broadly (there was a cardiac study i think, for example). i didn't even think about exteroception tho that makes a lot of sense

Most of the time, I can take care of issues I have on my own-if I recognize them, that is. I have very poor interoception. I’ve walked through 4 broken bones in my feet (they didn’t hurt at all), and I didn’t feel anything-not a damn thing-when this happened to me as a kid…

i have ADHD and hypermobility which are often associated with poor interoception (as far as i know) and there were a few different movements she got me to do to then identify that the Wrong muscle was being activated/i was using the wrong thing for support

Oh hello interoception! I see I need a nap, suddenly.
Oh whats that? You've been trying to tell me? My bad. 🤷‍♀️

I have OCD/ADHD & binge eating is a maladaptive coping mechanism. I’ve been working on the root issues for years but the “food noise” and my interoception is terrible. Zepbound helps. Do my PCPs bother to read my chart? Nope. To them, I’m clearly just another fatty in LA looking for the easy way.

What if #interoception is more than accurately detecting the body?

In our super-fresh Opinion in @cp-trendscognsci.bsky.social w/ @micahgallen.com @leahbanellis.bsky.social and Gioia Bottesi we ask a different question: what do bodily signals mean for the self?
Beyond accuracy: interoceptive self-appraisal and the meaning of bodily signals
For decades, accuracy in detecting internal bodily signals has been considered an important component of emotional experience. Yet this link remains elusive. Across methods and domains, interoceptive ...
