Iran has vowed to retaliate against Ukraine following an attack on an Iranian cargo ship in the Caspian Sea, which Ukraine claims was carrying military components to Russia. The incident raises concerns about a potential convergence of two major conflicts: Ukraine's war with Russia and Iran's tensions with the United States. Ukrainian officials assert the vessel was transporting drones and missiles for Russia, while Iran insists it was a civilian ship. Analysts suggest Ukraine may be seeking US support by framing the conflict as a broader struggle against both Russia and Iran. The timing of the attack, ahead of a meeting between Ukraine's Zelenskyy and US President Trump, could influence diplomatic outcomes. Experts note that while Iran supplies critical drone technology to Russia, its reliance has decreased over time. However, the incident risks complicating efforts to de-escalate tensions, with fears of further military confrontation in the region.
