#isese
La diferencia de trato entre el isese (la religión yoruba) y el shinto es tal cual el meme de cosa: 🤨 la misma cosa en Japón: 😲.

Bueno, peor, porque es "cosa africana: 😒".

Ogun declares August 20 public holiday to mark Isese Day
The Ogun State Government has declared Thursday, August 20, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Isese Day celebration. The declaration, according to the government, underscores the administration’s commitment to preserving and promoting Yoruba culture, heritage and traditional values. It would be recalled that August 20 was formally declared a public holiday in Ogun State in 2023, following a resolution of the Ogun State House of Assembly and the approval of Governor Dapo Abiodun. The government said Isese Day provides an opportunity for adherents of the Yoruba traditional religion to honour their ancestors, observe traditional rites and promote the values and teachings embedded in their spiritual and cultural practices.

I’ve always thought of writing as an extension of my spiritual practice.

I’ve transitioned from Southern Baptist to Isese to Hoodoo and back. All of them are a part of me and show up in my writing. So, to hear @imaniperry.bsky.social define and describe “hoodoo writing” felt so damn good to me.

Recently joined a group studying Isese and there’s a few of us that are completely new to the practice.

I suggested me do a book club so I guess I’ll be leading that.

Something I was yearning for was my spiritual community and I think I found it.

When you ask Nigerians what they know of their own indigenous practices (Isese for example), they start ticking off Nollywood shit (human sacrifice et al)
And it’s not just the white supremacist Christianity.
Hollywood has spent decades turning African spiritual systems into horror props. If it’s not demon possession, it’s some “evil witch doctor” summoning spirits in a dark hut. It’s propaganda designed to make you fear what you don’t understand.

Lmfaooo 😭 Olodumare - supreme being (big God in Isese/Ifa, our shared religion) - so a play on “my sister in christ”

The latter - well. She was speaking my heart. It just happened to be on the SL lol
