PBS used to run a block of anime in the mid-90s, back when we still called it "Japanimation." Saw the OG Dargon Ball on there and it was a wrap!
BLERDS & NERDS!!!! I have a question. What’s the 1st anime you ever say? Not the one that gave you a love for anime, but what’s the first one you ever saw? For me it was Dragon Ball. I remember it being three or four in the morning, and it just started playing on the Sci-Fi channel.

Japanimation Station returns tomorrow for the final 13 episodes of our TOMINO-THON! I couldn't be prouder of these episodes, and I'm so excited for everyone to start hearing them. It's a very full-circle season, given that Japanimation Station was born from Weekly Suit Gundam.

I never lived near one big enough to have a "Japanimation" shelf, even, just a few anime tapes nestled into "Special Interest" next to alien autopsy conspiracy videos.

When I was a teen, the only anime you could find was a handful of Streamline Pictures tapes, and maybe two of the eight Bubblegum Crisis tapes, on a sad shelf at Blockbuster labeled “Japanimation.”
Now McDonald’s has a SpongeBob/One Piece crossover happy meal.

the 'japanimation' of cartoons was a legit cool phenomenon to grow up with. i wish rooster teeth cartoons/web cartoons went through a similar arc instead of running out of money and writer's as fast as they did.

Akira - saw clips of this in those extreme "Japanimation" trailers in the '90s. Discovered my local video store had a copy. Rented it for Halloween in one of the first years I stayed home and didn't go out. Blew my mind that "older" animation could look like this

Woah Project A-ko is a blast from the past. Was one of those anime titles that all of the video rental stores would have in their Japanimation" sections along with ninja scroll/bubble gum crisis/Ranma/ haha

Doesn't help that the bizarre incestuous longing — for OTACON, remember, the guy who makes killer robots like in his Japanimation, who you first meet pissing his pants — is also part of her being pointlessly fridged, a big emotional moment for a character about to completely leave the story!

If a West cartoon is written here, but made in Japan, I'd call it a cartoon. Otherwise, AKOM's Transformers G1 work would be Aeni/애니.

It’s a marketing term, to be sure, but I like it a lot more than Japanimation.
