Underrated - Swan boating. It's relaxing & makes interesting photo comps. Great for the legs or arms if you choose the row boat option.

If it is possible for a city to be underrated and then Nagoya would rank up there as underrated.

Underrated in Japan - Bakeries! They are perfect for grabbing breakfasts when trying to stay on a budget and ideal for snacks on any trips - they even have incredible flavoured bread and cakes! #Japanuary25d17 #Japanuary25 #Japanuary

#Japanuary25D17: Underrated. Can I pick the whole of Kyushu?? 😅

I think it's sometimes seen as remote, but if you stop off on the way, the shinkansen journey isn't painful at all. Or take an open-jaw flight into Fukuoka & home from Tokyo. Or overnight ferry to Osaka/Kobe!

I was surprised how much I liked Matsumoto city! Great castle, museum, and it has a frog themed shopping street. Great side trip from Nagano.

Tsurumi Ryokuchi Park Osaka
Beautiful park with a botanical garden, lake and waterfalls. Also a windmill surrounded by flowers. I never see this place as a recommendation but it is definitely worth a visit.

@cakeswithfaces.bsky.social's japanuary: underrated. Minoo is a lovely respite from the buzz of Osaka at any time of year. The hike up to the falls might put some off but it's not overly strenuous (walked up there once with a pensioner in high-heeled slippers!) #Minoo #Japanuary25d17 #Japan #kansai

Day 17: Underrated

When people talk about Nara, I almost never see people mention Kasuga Taisha which is a shame! It's absolutely beautiful, and seeing the lanterns was one of the only moments I got emotional about how pretty something was.

Fully agree that Nagoya is an underrated city to visit. A lot of things to do especially if you are a foodie (Nagoya station) or a Studio Ghibli fan (Ghibli Park nearby). #Nagoyaisnotboring

Just around the corner from the popular Gotokuji Temple, was the Setagaya Hachimingu Shrine. It was very pretty and no one was there. It was so peaceful and I could take my time to explore.

#Japanuary, Day 17: Underrated

I love traveling long distances by train in Japan, but if you can go by car instead, do! That way, you can stop at michi no eki. Japanese truck stops are so much nicer than American ones.

Along with clean bathrooms, restaurants & coffee vending machines, it's a good way to see what the area's specialty is. This particular michi no eki had a hot spring-fed foot bath. The area is known for mikan (citrus), so they had different mikan products available. Give it a try!
